I agree with Rychenroller, Robin Hobbes is a great writer.
Same is true for Raymond E. Feist, the game he wrote (Betrayal at Krondor) is fantastic!
From Tolkien's products I like Silmarillion most and from it the tale of Turin Turambar. But all of them are great.

Cat's cradle from Kurt Vonnegut - that one for the Atomic Bomb and "How the world ended"... i have to read it again, this time in english

Right now I'm rereading in english, first part of LOTR - Fellowship of the Ring.

Gollum in bulgarian is Amgul (because the sound we make is 'gul-gul-gul', instead of 'goll-goll-goll')

Tends to happen...

Writers find themselves with such a big hit on their hands, they go crazy and write sequel after sequel. Classic example of this is robert Jordan. First 5 or 6 boooks or so were excellent, i thought they were some of the best books  have read, i think "lord of chaos" was the last of the good ones, Some great writing around certain characters lately, Logain Ablar and Mazrim Taim(Demandred) are great characters, but the Aes Sedai and all that stuff has turned into one big yawn...zzz.z.z..z.zzzzz

Sorry to all the wheel of time lovers out there

Hmmm, some great Sci-fi authors are Kim Stanley Robertson (Great trilogy about the terraforming of Mars) and offcourse Larry Niven Frank Herbert is okay aswell, eventhough the sequels to "Dune" get more and more far out. Guess he ate a wee bit more mushrooms than was healthy for him
But my favourite book gotta be Gabriel Garcia Marquez` "A hundred years solitude".
Damn that magic-realism is awesome. Peter Høeg`s first book was in the same Genre, and is far better than "Smilla`s feelings for snow" unfortunately I cant remember the english title as I offcourse read it in danish
Next on my list gotta be Umberto Eco`s "Foucoault Pendulum" Imho its a little better than "In the name of the Rose", but it was a great movie with good ole Sean Connery portraying the detective-monk
Somebody stop me!
Just remembered how much I enjoyed reading Milan Kunderas "Laughable Loves" but offcourse that was right after a painfull break up.
Albert Camus`"The fall" is also very recomendable, and for a long time it was the only book I kept coming back to.

Defreni

P.S Forgot to mention my favourite book to read aloud to other people, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry "The little Prince" Great for kids and adults alike

Hey Defreni,
Have you read Simmons Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion?  Wonderful science fiction.  Really, really good.

Other good sci-fi in recent years is anything by Stephen J. Baxter.  Flash Forward is arguably his best.
