Creature's spellcasting probabilities
Hi all!
I'm just wandering about creatures that have some spells as special ability. I know that the weaker the spell, the greater the chance to be cast, but what are the rates exactly?
I mean, let's take a look at the Dragon Fly. It has dispel and weakness. They are 1-2 level spells, so probability is 100% (unless target is immune, has magic resistance etc.)
But let's see the Mighty Gorgon's death stare. It is not available in hero's spellbooks, so that's a unique spell: no wonder that probability is lower. However I'd still say that it's a spell, so it could be in a spellbook as well; power depending on hero's spellpower skill (killing instant numbers of creatures like Hand of death in Heroes 4)
Since Heroes 3 doesn't mention these probabilities, I think there must be a formula or something that is used to calculate these?
Does anyone know something about this?

I'm pretty sure that Death Stare is an ability (like aging) and not a spell.
From my experience creatures cast spells based on set criteria - like AI level, can they attack that turn, etc.
Afaik, flies cast dispell when they attack. I don't use fortress ofgten but I'll feel rather noobish is they have a spell book and can cast it as their turn.

Only dragon flies dispel always, the more powerful abilities are at a certain random %. I donīt know those figures, but Unicorns seem to proc blind a lot, and medusas in stores when you go in with a smaller army!
