HOMM3 winxp SP3 frequently crashes
Please somebody help me!
I'm a huge fan of the might and magic series but HOMM3 crashes frequently.
I have the same computer for years (P4, nvidia 6200 adapter, winXP pro), the same original game (special edition all heroes games) and everything was working perfect for years.
Now since some latest windows updates and driver updates from Nvidia I can start HOMM3, but after a minute the mouse stops responding, the keyboard stops responding and I can exit the game only by crtl/alt/del...
I'ts so confusing. I tried everything. Older Nvidia drivers, recent Nvidia drivers, BETA Nvidia drivers, I tried all different compatibility modes in windows, I closed hardware accelaration, I uninstalled WOG and reinstalled HOMM3, F4 for change to window mode, I tried different resolutions en 16 bit mode, but nothing seems to work anymore.
So I thought it was SP3 for WinXP pro what causes the problem. I formatted my disc, I installed Windows again, but the same problem over and over again.
The strange thing is that I almost got all games to work on my PC. Newer games, older games HOMM4 no problem, HOMM5 no problem, the older Warlords serie no problem and one month before also HOMM3 was working without crashes.
Do somebody have the same problem and give me an advice how I get HOMM3 working again???

I don't have a solution to your problem. I have a similar one, although a whole lot milder; read here. It turns out that this problem appears in every Mac that I have tried, and I don't know what's the cause either. In any case I don't play frequently anymore, so, I haven't really went thoroughly through the problem.
I am just stating it here in case you find something while looking online.
Good luck.

My Platinum runs fine with Win XP Pro SP3.
Except when I have Firefox in the background and I'm listening to something on it, then it crashes usually within 20 minutes and I have to force restart the pc.

I'm having the same issue; it has something to do with the sound; not the graphics (i think).. turn off all the music and the sound effects and it won't crash as often; but this sucks...
Any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 32-bit by the way...
Always worked for me, I upgraded, now it crashes.
