More levels to a map
I think instead of just regular and subterranian, there should be all of the planes (plane of fire, water, etc...)
as always this would be optinal in a map, but it would make for bigger maps (which I like) and more interesting games and possible story lines (which I also like to have when building a map). This may make it to complicated, but I dont think so.

Hmmm...
I've been thinking about this but never thought that dimension thing! This dimension thing would affect somehow with different laws that on the normal place. But it still may be too comblicated.

No, I don't think it's a good idea
Any map can be as big as you want to and some take 12-13 months to complete, so more of it is not necessary. However, if we concern campaigns, well, this is sth different. But if we have to be honest, planes are associated with the elementals- Conflux, so it's a bit too late.
Or maybe to early?

Well it would be okay if they included different mounts for each plane (nightmare on fire plane. etc.) But too many planes would just clutter up the game style.

I love this idea.. but it would be too difficult to track things (or even finish the map) with more than 2 layers. So it remains at 2 layers. Unfortunately, that second layer (subterranean) had to be as dull as the underground realistically is..
I really wish they changed that second layer into something more interesting and less generic looking. Yeah there's lots of dirt. An underwater layer, a cloud layer, and other planes as you suggested would be cool. Perhaps in the campains they could keep it at 2 layers but change the second layer from subteranean to whatever fit the story for the time. So that means on one mission the secondary layer was an elemental plane, and in the next mission you're back to raiding the underground again. That way you can leave the complexity still at 2 levels and it doesn't take forever to finish the map. Maybe in HOMM5 they'll do this.

though the idea is cool in theory, it would make the maps impractical. Truth be told I didnt like the Subterranean maps in Homm3, thought the surface areas had more detail and better art.
