Does it seem like the background scale are inconsistent? Sometimes trees look like the size of grass when scaled to the units, but other times, it seems like the background is in scale with the units.

Griffin. For #^@& sake, griffin is a hybrid, not a pure eagle.
Phoenix. As said, the flaming chicken.

Vampire attack
Leprechaun moving animation (not just stupid looking, also very slow)
Satyr moving animation
Black Dragon flying animation (seems unnatural to me)
Medusa only ugly face (I actually like the two legs and tail design)
Hydra has 2 legs but still only the movement looks weird, rest is great

The waspwort is a bit... weird. Also, I don't like the look of the fire elemental and the earth elemental. They should, in my opinion, not have faces. The sea monster could also be a lot more terrifying with some design changes.

Venom spawn is the worst. Its look like homeless snail or maybe like a green poop.

I disagree. I felt the designer got the Venom Spawn perfectly, making it as slimy and disgusting as possible. Destroying a stack of venom spawn is so much fun in this game, because they just BURST and explode in a gross (read: delicious) way. ^_^ Imo, it was designed the way it should be imo.
I always hated the Sprites though. Sprites are meant to be fickle, colorful, graceful and light. That was so not the case in H4.

Gross means disgusting (He was joking that disgusting is something delicious) and I think "griss" means "big" actually, but in German =]
Btw I agree that the Venom Spawn was AWESOME.

I really like the disign of many creatures like the hydra (the best hydra of all homm in my opinion),the fairy dragon and the titan.
But there were already bad exeptions like the harpy, the medusa or the vampire. But the worst was that all haven units were pink! PINK!

They are "delicious" because they are an absolute delight to see and hear. Yes, they are gross, disgusting blobs of Acid, but they are meant to be exactly that. The design works, it's a joy to see them "work" like they're supposed to and on top of that they are an extremely creative find. All of this that makes it a very good addition to the Heroes Canon. Similarly, I absolutely love the clunky Crusaders, the Squaling Orcs and multicolored Fairy Dragons (among others)
Sprites on the other hand, are meant to be colorful, light, fickle, fragile and cheerful. In the first three games, the designer succesfully brought all of these traits into one creature. In H4, they failed because 1) Lack of flashy Colors 2) lack of "cutesy moments" 3) lack of smooth movement. They were heavy, awkward, inappropriately dressed, voiced and animated. Thoroughly inadequate imo. Same reason I disliked the Phoenix (Phoenixes are meant to be fiery, intimidating and majestic, while H4's looked like red chickens), the Fire Elemental (a design which makes no sense whatsoever) and the Vampire (Should be energetic, quick and charming, but H4's version was WAY to slow and awkward imo)

Just a note, it's not totally accurate to condemn Heroes IV's graphics as something NWC ever intended: keep in mind that most of the art department was fired to cut costs from 3DO, months and months before the game was even close to finished.

@Lexxan I agree about the Sprite, to me they appeared quite demonic, and resembled a Harpy rather than the pre H4 Sprite and the Faerie Dragon is one of my favourite creatures I really want it to return in H6
