how to edit sound in Heroes3?(!)
Does anybody know, how to edit sound in Heroes3?
music can be replaced simply by renaming mp3 files in "music" folder.
what about all the rest? is there any "sound-upload" programme,
HERE IS A COLLECTION OF BEST H3 EDIT TOOLS;
YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT IN ONE ZIP FILE FROM:
--------------------------------------------
www.concepts-of-life.net\best-of-H3tools.zip
--------------------------------------------
here is a short description of 5programmes inside this zip file, good luck!
1.RESEDIT
a programme, which will help you to open hidden picture files of pc game "Heroes3".
it opens files, located in Heroes3\Data folder:
H3bitmap.lod
H3sprite.lod
it will also help you to extract these hidden files into folders you choose.
2.DEFMAKER
a programme, which will help you to make new picture or animation files for pc game H3.
3.H3LODS
a programme, which will help you to replace hidden picture files, animation files, or "rules" files
with "new-made", or "old-remade" files. it will help to integrate them into "H3bitmap.lod", "H3sprite.lod".
4.TXTEDIT
a programme, which will help you to edit various Rules of pc game "Heroes3".
these rules are hidden inside file "Heroes3\data\H3sprite.lod" az "*.txt" files.
use RESEDIT to extract these txt files from H3sprite.lod file;
edit these txt files with TXTEDIT;
integrate edited files with H3LODS back into H3sprite.lod file.
that's it!
....................
ow, i didn't forget:
5.DEFVIEW
a programme, which will help you to open
extracted picture files from "H3lods.lod" and from "H3sprite.lod";
it will help to open these files, and to save animated units "picture by picture"
into "bmp" format, so that you may re-draw these units.
-------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
as you can see, we're missing for sound and video integrators!!!
does anybody has any "sound-changer" for Heroes3?
i hope this information will be helpful for many.

"if you can help "change sounds in H3", we're still waiting for your help, because i only know how to change music tracks in Heroes3\mp3 folder"
Wait - So, I can go to this folder and place e.g., some H2 songs or of the Kings Bounty music as the ones for "Grass" or "Lava", etc...?
EDIT: Thats wonderful! I have a problem (dont know if s.o. can point me in the right direction), some of the H2 that i like very much are in forrmat .mp2. I had a very tough time finding a mp2 --> mp3 converter for free download (tried 5 iguess), they never converted the file. Can anyone let me know what/how to do this?
Thanx!

all info is strictly not for crime against humans - this is not secret sabotage.
sorry, bro, i have checked my software folders,
but i don't have programmes which convert MP2>to>MP3.
otherwise, it is quite difficult to find
free-and-fully-functional software,
but finally i found "RadVideoTools",
which converts:
*.bik; *.smk; *.wav; *.avi; *.mov; *.qt; *.lst; *.fli; *.bmp; *.gif; *.psd; *.tga; *.pcx; *.tif; *.sgi; *.png; *.pic; *.jpg *.jpeg; *.mp4;
*.dv; *.mpg; *.mpeg; *.wmv; *.wma; *.asf; *.mjpg; *.mjeg; *.aiff; *.au; *.rla; *.swf; mp3; *.raw
converts into: AVI, WAV, BMP, GIF, TIF, PNG, JPEG, TGA, PCX and .... FLC
you can download it from: www.radgametools.com
or from mirror place: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CBH24ZTJ
i hope later to open Heroes3 forum theme: "Best Of H3 Tools 201X" and frequently keep it updated,
so please write about any Heroes3 related software and programming hints into this folder.
and don't thank me. thank you for participating in H3 research.
BY THE WAY, MP2 FORMAT COULD BE A "MAP" FORMAT OF HEROES2, (THANKS TO "SOLITAIRE345" FOR INFORMATION). IN HEROES-3 MAP FORMAT IS h3m, & I DIDN'T CHECK HEROES-2 FOR YEARS,SO,I DON'T REMEMBER... THANKS AGAIN.

I have a soundtrack of HoMM4 in mp3 files and I wanted to exchange some HoMM3 music files with them. However, it doesn't work, all I get is silence. It seems the game can't read these files... The same applies to a lot of my music.
How to overcome these problems?

It doesn't work. Default music is working with this new DLL, other files still don't.

It might be that there's something messed up with volume of your sound files. Try to increase the sound volume of your speakers and adjust sound volume in the game and OS and see if that helps.

I usually have my system volume set to 50% and my speakers to 25%. I set it all to maximum for a while and I still don't hear anything. Besides, those mp3 files weren't really silent.

HOW TO EDIT SOUND? - HERE IS EXACT WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!
programme "MMArchive" -
VERY SIMPLE FOR SOUND EXTRACTING FROM HEROES3
AND FOR INTERGRATING (REPLACING) NEW SOUND
really, this tool can both:
extract and integrate all sound, video, pictures,
and many txt files.
this means that now you can replace Heroes3 units easily,
also change some rules (txt), sounds, video, graphics.
basically, "MMArchive" replaces earlier menioned programmes: "RESEDIT" and "H3LODS".
and even more! MMArchive lets to change SOUND and VIDEO, what H3LODS could not.
everything can be done with few clicks: 1)"extract" 2)"add"(replace)
just remember, that newly integrated files should be renamed exactly
as those which you try to replace.
thank you for Heroes3 Original Authors and 3DO programmers!
thank you for Sergei Rozhenko, who wrote this tool!
thank you for Bytebandit, who posted this link,
thanks to all who participate in collecting these tools, especially thanks to H3Forums.

Does someone know what is the right format of Heroes 3 mp3 music? While in HD Mod it doesn't really matter (as far as it's 128kb/s), there's no way I could convert my music properly into the original game.
Mainly it's the problem with some strange "squeals" and "beeps" while playing it in the game. I tried converting the music to 128kb/s again, giving it 16-bit sample format etc. Nothing worked. Even more - once after editing there was no music at all...
If you know, please tell me what do I do wrong and what should I do to make it all work. I'd be grateful.
PS. Both mss32fix and h3sndfix from Celestial Heaven don't work.

Interesting. For me it worked out of the box. I ripped some CDs, converted the wav files with lame (a command line mp3 encoder) to mp3, put them in the H3 Music folder, and it worked. I even used variable (adaptive) bit rate encoding, and it worked.
But that's only for the music part. There are other sounds based on wav format. A proper wav file can be simply renamed to .82m (or the like, i don't remember exactly). It's just that there are some restrictions about the wav file. Maybe in the modding thread there is more info about it.
