[map H5]Uncertainty
Hello people, once again I try to reinvent the oldschool Heroes gameplay we all love. Here is the result:
Download Uncertainty beta
Name: Uncertainty
Author: Warmonger
Size: Large (176x176) with underground
Players: 4, all can be human
Multiplayer: yes
Difficulty: High
Scripts: yes
The most tricky part here are regenerating garrisons which have so many advantages I just can't list all of them. There are two types of those: gates with full army which get resupplied with 120% army power when a player captures them, or simple garrisons with one huge stack growing with time. These add whole new level to the gameplay:
-Taking over garrisons doesn't make them useless, actually it's one of the essentail things that lead to the victory.
-It may be necessary to take longer path if the shorter is blocked by stronger garrison.
-After few fights, guarding army gets really huge which provides a challenge even in late game
-Random level 1 hereoes can't wander freely over the map and take mines anymore
-There's always something to do and to get, such as experience for secondary hero. Even Spoils of War shines here.
-Taking enemy garrisons pays off even if we're not going to cross them
-AI doesn't hang up as most of ways are always blocked
The map comes with 30 towns, a few with grail and tons of dwellings. By the month 4 armies grow ridiculously. If you ever wanted to hit enemy with a throng of Thunder Thanes, now you get the chance.
Most of treasures are placed sideways, are optional and you may freely explore or ignore them. The layout is pretty random, except of native islands and underground areas fixed for players. Gold and pink one-way portals are randomixed to make players travel all the map, all the time. Every path is worth considering and you can never be sure where the threat emerges.
Artifacts are rare and well-guarded, ships are precious and shipyards uncommon.
The AI is cheating, getting weak / neutral units as long as it stays close to main towns. If you wait too long, you will be overwhelmed by hundreds of them. Town sitting does not work in here.
Random stack system has been implemented, however some are normal or fixed.
The graphical design is not something I really care about. Feel free to help and spam the map with eyecandies.
Choosing same factions for players may lead to utter imbalance and bizzare outcome.

That's probably due to scripts loading up. Normally it's no big deal, but if your computer is ancient it can cause some slowdown indeed.

Is it H5 different from H3? In H3 the map design is 90% of the work to put in. People choose maps to play by opening the editor first.

Me too, but I don't really care about graphics and to be honest, prefer simplicity.
Also, some genius opened editor and reported than on my previous map there are almost no stacks. Of course, they are placed via script.
In H5 you have way much more options to choose, as editor allows to import any 3D model or effect and use it... or create new one. Also, it takes more time.

It recalls me the guy who also opened my Alexander map then reported in maps4h that it is a map for beginners, because he saw max stacks of 20 units on the map. Of course the script added 5000 HP + 8 bonuses to each one of them

I took a look at your map and I know I can eye candy the hell out of it. Take a look at my current project and consider this my resume. http://www.sendspace.com/file/8i7a87 If you'd like me to take a go of it let me know. Hopefully my video card issues will be solved by then.

^This project looks very nice, but is not overstuffed with wild things. That's pretty much what I ask for, but of course it's up to you.

I just realized that this nice map is still not released. Let me know if someone is still interested in eye candies.

Gibblets said that he was interested in doing the eye-candy work earlier. Since he and I have nearly finished our joint map, I will send him an e-mail and remind him so that you will know where he stands anyway. I'll wait and see what he decides first.
Btw, I just deleted my non-essential post. Sorry bout that.

I have not forgotten about eye candying your map for you. I have done the water, 2 side Islands, and one main Island so far.
Progress has been slow because as Markkur has said I'm working on a somewhat spontaneous project with him.
However, on the bright side, all of the practice I have gained from the map with Markkur will be applied to yours. So I hope that's enough of a trade-off to tolerate my tardiness.

My experience with the map
So I've tried the map a few times now.
Twice the Fortress AI showed up with 150 to 180 dragons during month three. He was the green AI. Is he just getting the dragon artifact set right away or something? I only have time to get about 40 L7 units. Or do I just stink at this map?

You should break garrison about week 4. In month 3 AI may indeed get ridiculous army, although it's built-in cheating at higher difficulties, I didn't give Magma Dragons to them.
Apart from that, map is marked "hard" on purpose No more duck shooting.
