HOMM2 for OS X
Hi, I'm brand new to this forum. My friend and I used to play a lot of HoMM, but we haven't really since IV was released (he said they changed a lot of the game and it wasn't as good anymore, I took his word for it, then the series just sort of died out for us as we went on with life). Anyway, that might be more than you need to know, but the point is, we want to play II again, because it was our favorite, and we loved that game. I was looking for a download of it last night from roughly 8something in the evening to 4something in the morning. I could not find it, I need help.
Yes, I'm looking for a free download. I'd appreciate not getting yelled at for not wanting to pay for a game that's over a decade old--there are newer additions to the series for them to make money off of, I feel HoMM2 should be free, and I was nervous about coming on here and asking for help so please don't be a jerk...
A zip of HoMM for OS X would be best and I would be greatly appreciative of whoever can help me obtain this. I'm pretty sure a rar file would work too. If you know how/where I can get a good rip of this classic please private message me.

Well, I appreciate your position and you may have predicted this response anyway, but: we really aren't able to provide you a free copy of H2, not least because Ubisoft are still making money off of it. It's always worth supporting them if you'd like the series to continue.

Cepheus, thank you for respecting my request although you're unable to fulfill it. On the site you referred me to, the purchase is for Windows XP and Windows Vista, but not Mac OS X, so even if I did buy it I wouldn't able to play it. Thank you again, though, for being so kind in your response, I want you to know that I really appreciate it.
I'd really like to explain my position a little more thoroughly and to make one more appeal to this community.
To all,
I understand the importance of supporting game developers when they produce great games and I don't want to steal from New World Computing, The 3DO Company, Ubisoft, or any one else--in fact, I tend to go the extra mile when it comes to supporting the people who create the things I enjoy, whether it be game developers, authors, musicians, cooks, or anyone else. One good example of this is when one of my favorite bands were touring in support of their new album and they played a show in my city. At their show I bought three of their t-shirts and five copies of their new album to give to friends as gifts. (The guy at the merch counter smiled and joked, "one for every day of the week"). Unfortunately, this was when money was less tight and I could afford it.
Ten dollars isn't an unreasonable price for such a great game as Heroes of Might and Magic II, but every dollar weighs a lot more heavily in my pockets these days; ten dollars is the equivalent of two days worth of food. Besides, I've bought this game before. I'd be buying this game for the second time. The same goes for my friend, who also had his own legitimate copy of Heroes of Might and Magic II. We've both paid for this game in the past, and neither of us have a lot of money at the moment.
This game is over a decade old and there are three newer additions to the series (fairly soon, it seems, there will be four). Heroes III and Heroes V definitely make more money than Heroes II. If I were to get Heroes V I would undoubtedly buy it, but unfortunately I don't see that happening in the foreseeable future. This is for two reasons--1) because I really cannot afford it right now, and 2) because this computer is a Mac OS X version 10.3.9, whereas Heroes of Might and Magic V requires at least version 10.4.9 (or at least the demo does).
My friend and I really just want to play each other in Heroes of Might and Magic II, what used to be a favorite game of both of ours. Call it nostalgia. I'm sure that to this day it's an amazing game and I'm really hoping someone messages me, I definitely believe someone here can help me under the radar to get this game. Please, I would owe you and I would be so grateful.
...if still no one will help me, I promise I won't be spamming this forum continuously... I've been reading lots of the threads and I'm actually surprised by how kind everyone is. I'm just not quite ready to give up on obtaining Heroes II... If you can help me, PLEASE do!

Hi, Jackson. Welcome to the forums! I really commend your honesty and determination in obtaining this game.
However, I've been doing my part in trying to search for a Heroes II game for the MAC OSX and I'm afraid that apparently, Heroes II simply can't run on newer operating systems, perhaps the old game can't handle the new tweaks. From what I heard though, the game runs fine on Windoes XP, at most, try it on that OS or older ones such as Windows '98, I'm sure you'd have better luck in finding and downloading a suitable and compatible Heroes II version by then.
Good luck.

How did you find this out? From what I've come across it seems like people need to alter the file to make it compatible with osx, but it seems like there are plenty of these rips--it's just I personally can't access any of them.

I found a Mac version of Heroes of Might and Magic II. The game works perfectly except for one issue, it won't load saved games. Apparently there's a patch for this but I'm having trouble finding patches for Heroes of Might and Magic II. Can anyone help me with this?

Sorry, Jackson. I asked some of the people I know who are big suckers for the Heroes series. Now, I know, I better not take their word for it. Anyway, I wish you all the best of luck in finding that patch.
