16th lvl Arena - Tournament proposition
Map features:
- Army strength of week 6
- Sphinx gives level 16th
- You may choose one of three artifact areas - 1 relic, 2 major, 3 minor
- Banned spells: divine vengeance, armageddon, cotn, word of light, earthquake, rune of charge and rune of ressurection
- Banned artifacts: ring of speed, staff of the netherworld, pendant of mastery, mask of equity, unicorn horn bow, skull of Markal, lion crown, armour of forgotten hero, windstrider boots, cloak of death's shadow and artifacts that are not useful in the field of battle
Rules and instruction:
1. Visit hut of the magi to reveal your enemy and artifacts in the underground.
2. Autosave to generate 500 gold.
3. Check you spells and artifacts including Academy and Dungeon merchants - plan your build.
4. Pick up 8500 gold and start leveling your hero:
- visit mentor to clear unwanted starting skills/abilities - only 500 gold on 1st lvl
- buy Shatter Dark ( only Barbarian can posses it in battle ) to exchange it in mentor for one more skill/ability or wait until sphinx leveling for safety - you can still do it after if you have a free slot and your build doesn't need any changes
- visit sphinx to gain 16th level - Dark Revelation can give you 17th but do not take it with Barbarian Hero ( when taking Stamina he is forced to pick a level from shrines ) - be careful though because on 17th level one exchange in mentor costs 2500 rather than 2000 on 16th so you will probably make one exchange less
- visit mentor to rebuild your hero - depending on previous actions you will be able to do from 3 to 5 exchanges ( wizard award generates 1000 gold so it can help you gain needed gold )
5. One way teleporter leads you near your castle. Pick up gold and your army from the garrison. Upgrade and buy units in town - one population is available to buy so do not forget about it
( Academy, Dungeon and Haven may take less army to buy artifact or training purposes )
6. If you play Necropolis or Sylvan use the two way monolith to choose your favourite enemy or gain creatures from dark magic ( raiders and brawlers give you 16 vampires )
7. Enter the underground to pick your artifacts, stats bonus ( might or magic ) and final bonus:
- artifact - after visiting the tomb attack Death Knight to regain positive morale
- random 1-3 level spells
- one more level only available for Barbarian Hero - take this route if you have Stamina, otherwise you will loose your hp bonus on death knight
8. Visit the well ( put all knowledge artifacts to gain maximum mana ) and enter the battle grounds always by letting Phoenix flee
Tweaks:
- some hero specials have been tweaked for balance purposes
- stormwind gives penalty -1 range and -20 init
- no pile of skulls in orcs town
- no avenger's brotherhood in sylvan town

And here I thought you'd disappear Welcome back mate, this should be interesting if you gather enough people. On that note my map doesn't count, it keeps changing every few months Heck these days I am using a lvl 19 version with week 6 armies and the 2 witch huts.

hi albolabris...I've read a little about your map from web...I'd like to try that too if you are going to hold a tourny like that here or in your league [but I know no Polish]...but I don't do the toh
in terms of balance, I'm thinking that Elvin is just trying all the different combinations, the last one was different to all the others before [never 100% sure how things go until many give it a shot, plus good to try new things]

So, how do you prevent Inferno getting Shatter Dark?
Magic Shrines - I don't like how I can't scout what's in them before leveling up also, barbarians can easily get to level 17 with them.
And one last thing - when I pick the extra artifact I get -3 Morale and have to fight the Phoenix to lose it. Not that it makes a huge difference, any lvl7 stack can take it without loses so it could be 1 Goblin instead.
Oh, when visiting the Sphinx pick "Głowa do góry"

And another thing - with only level 16/17 and with this army size I strongly doubt anyone would pick Warmachines

Shatter for inferno is baned. You just can't have it. You see Shatter in your own book. Never matter the details now. I will give them all but for now i want to know if people would even like to try. Map is ready for playing

Sure I'll give it a try.
But I feel that the jap an the inbalance in the recent tourney isn't entirely justified if you argue with the map. A game can be pretty onesided because the atb screws you over, the hero positioning is directly behind each other, a 5 out of 5 morale/luck doesn't trigger all game long and other stuff (and we have seen games like that in the tourney no doubt about it). But those aren't factors you can limit with help of a map. Just saying for fairness sake. But I'm definetly curious to try out your version.

I know Azzie that sometimes reasons you mentioned ruin the battles.
I played and watched plenty of replays on all those maps and i noticed that onesided ones happen less often on this lower level map if you have two good players. Map is just different. Bad battles also happen of course but i never had a feeling that i have absolutely no chance...
EDIT: Here you have some Replays from this map. Maybe this will convince you a bit. Warmachines are also used as you can see Almost every kind of build is possible. Main difference is that you will lack some skills and abilities which your opponent may use to gain advantage. I suppose that is the main reason those battles are usually more even. You don't have all... Your build has strong and weak points... Onesided slaughter happens very very rare...

I can say, that balance on this map is realy good. I've played it a lot (with Albo too), for fun and in official tourney. Maybe some replays will be better than words. Pairs for example inf vs dungeon or orcs vs nekro are still hard to win but all in all every map of this kind have this problem.
I recommend this map for all of you and I can say now that I'll take part if the tourney on "Arena" will start

albolabris was kind enough to help me try out this map & I had some really great games of which this one was most memorable
yikes
There are some really good points about the map:
1. Unfortunate stat distribution/arti selections can be partly countered by selecting +2atk/+2def or +2sp/+2know...so no chance for 1 spellpower or really low knowledge...I even chose +2atk/+2def for necro vs orcs
2. Levelling requires deep & careful consideration...no easy picks here

Yes, also enjoyed this one apart from shining golden eagle
Wonder about the result if i would cast stone spikes on my previous turn It definitely would be much closer and who knows...
