Funny.. random maps ARE the single most important reason for the game to be played today..
Fixed maps are sooo imbalanced - it's freaking! Hail random map generator

i dont like random maps. They are very boring and too simple: like there is a road from the town to the teleport/underground/shipyard. And they dont have any stories and the first town is always empty, sometimes it has lvl 1-2 dwellings though. And random maps have always certain routes and areas (like desert areas, grass areas etc.) , which make them more boring. Undergrounds dont make any sense (their designs are terrible) and there are sometimes areas which are HUNG.
Some people says that fixed maps are not balanced. Well then just try the map "War of the Mighty". Just edit the dungeon lord out from that map. And I always enjoy play maps like WotM.
well that was only my opinion so plz dont be angry against me. But I like campaigns, fixed, playable and good-looking maps.

What do you mean, retreating the main hero? Buying new scouts at secondary towns, disbanding some old to make the chain faster?
I played ToH for years, i dare saying that i know every tactic in h3 that there is...it just doesn't help much when you need to fight with that main in an area far away, and if you need that money?
Or please enlighten me if you know any tactics other than chaining tropps to him, if you are not lucky enough to get certain spells.

Well, if you are experienced TOH player there is no secrets for you.
But the reallity is even on XL map 7 scouts with full speed (2000 mp) are enough to reach almost any point of the map from your main town.
In addition you can use villages as middle stations, where a garison hero awaits to make the chain even longer. So with 1-2 villages you can make a chain from 9 scouts.

If i use all heroes to chain troops i have none left to scout the new area. Do you like to walk blindly into that desert?
The point is randoms are usually just too big, and there are no shortcuts as on most maps like gates.

what exactly do you mean? how do you define "BIG"? please mention template/settings which you are speaking about. Jebus XL 130% is pretty different from Marathon XL 200%. Regarding exploration - it's a matter of skill of player. Better player will explore map more wisely, effectively and quicker.
