Frankly, who gives a damn? Aside from Agrael they're just caricatures and cardboard cutouts. Play Heroes IV's campaigns, they have character development.

My favourite is Markal - I love the Necromancer raise-as-you-go ability anyway, and Markal has that great ability to have ALL undead neutral stacks join him.
