XL Map - Faerie Mists
Got into problems with the portraits, but the map is playable enough without. It's just pictures after all... So here it is, enjoy! If you run into any problems, post here or HCM me
Download
The map contains no new creatures or new Heroes (of course), storyline, creature stats and abilities changed and hopefully a nice looking and hours of fun play!
Creel, an ambitious Knight and leader of the Cult of Mirrorworlds. He had done little so far in his life, but finally came in possession of the knowledge he needed to be something.
A Magma Elemental had come out of a portal you built camp around, sharing all of the secrets of traveling dimensions. There are portals around in the world, protected by the powerful leaders of the races. These portals lead to other worlds, by traveling through the mists. There is a catch though, as there always is. The mists are ruled by extremely powerful creatures, Faerie Creatures. Elementals.
These creatures have magical powers way more powerful than anything anyone in Creels world can hope to match. The Magma Elemental tells him about the Planeswalker the Gorge, said to be God of Faeries. Creels ambitions then grows; he wants to take the place of the Gorge. He studies for years, trying to figure out a way to be able to defeat the God. He then learns of the Power of the Dragon Father, a powerful artifact said to give immunity to weak magic for the one who carries it. Creel figures that it is the best way to defeat the Gorge. Getting the Power of the Dragonfather, a spellbook, knowledge of magic himself and an army to challenge the Faeries.
These are his goals, to travel the Mists to gather the artifact he seek, and then kill the Gorge himself. Now seek the lands for the Boxes of Pandora, as she were the last to control the Power. She took it apart and hid it, for no one were to be in possession of the extreme powers it granted. Now seek the lands, child, and fulfill your destiny.
There are a few minor things to fix before the map is playable. These being:
- Map being tested by a few players to make sure it works smoothly.
- Probably some changes on the map itself.
I did not make/add any of the new objects, thanks to those who did for making it easier to be a mapmaker.
Send me a HCM or simply post here if you want to help test the map!

Thanks! And yess, I've been here awhile again! Though not so active. Hopefully I'll manage to produce a few interesting things for the remaining active WOG players. Since pretty much all my projects went to hell

Hey, now that's something that actually looks good Other WoG mappers tend to spam the space with random, unmatching objects.

Indeed
A good idea would be to create a testing map with all terrains and then place all objects from editor on and see what works with what. It will take some time but will not be lost time. Once you get used at them, you will use a much better matching. In general, once you go for a specific style, it is better to avoid placing regular objects in that area, as it looks un-natural. The transition between opposite looking terrains must be hidden by rivers/bush, mountains or trees.

Thanks! I looked at several maps (mainly from map editor contests and stuff) and saw things I thought looked good, then I decided "hey, I want to make a good-looking map!"
Edit: Any idea how to make a desert look good? It's the greatest challenge on the entire map, so hard making a desert since they're usually empty.

Try different maps as much as you can. You get vey good ideas (landscapes, plots, layout) from more experient builders (just make sure to acknowledge their contributions in the end).
