Name: DEFka.
Version: 1.0.
Download: WogArchive
Mirror: Multiupload

Introduction.
The program was designed in order to simplify the life of an ordinary gamer who doesn't want to know anything about the game resources and about a difficult way of changing them. He (she) downloaded a pack with 1-2 creature defs and wants them to replace, say, Angel. Anything the player needs is to choose those defs (or only battle def) and select monster name from the list. The program will take care of backup and importing.

Installation.
Unpack the archive to any empty folder. Run DEFka.exe.

Short description.
First of all, set the path to your game folder if it differs from the default variant (C:\Program Files\3DO\Heroes III). After that select battle creature def and perhaps map one. Click on monster name in the list to start importing. If everything is ok, terminal window will appear and disappear after a few seconds.
After replacing def the old one is moved to Data\Backup folder. Repeated actions will not overwrite the backuped file. To restore def from backup turn on "Restore mode" and click on the creature name.

Credits.
The idea and first description belong to Valery (Salamandre). Beta testing and the most routine work (the creation of def list) was also done by him.
Credits also go to GrayFace for "Lod" Pascal unit and to unknown author of lodedit.exe.

Awesome work!

A little sad this will take away the pleasure of learning how to do it the hard way as it has its advantages, but it was a much needed tool and its usefulness will be a great relief for many!

More to come, hopefully

Wow, that's fantastic! Now all we need is a simple tool to change creature portraits and replacing creatures would be simple as .. that!

Now it's just to wait for a mod to QP it.

Thank you for replies. If everything is all right the second version will have support for replacing creature portraits too. Now working on it.

Yeah, speaking about pleasure when you do it tens of times/day...But you still need to make a wog file when releasing a fixed creature (ie you replace a precise faction) or a mod, so go ahead.

Great, this tool is perfect

I added this tool to the creatures archive, here, to the guides section, to help the people who downloaded defs from my site .

if I understand correctly, you can REPLACE existing creatures and NOT add new ones? (since those slots are unaccessible or something)

Yes, replace them without having to make anymore a .wog file, check for creature name, write names, place in Update and run Update. Now you click on your def, the creature to replace and it is in.

OOT

I wish someone could also make a missile-offset editing software. It would be a great help for those who try to make shooters.

PS: Or is it hardcoded? or it is the one in Cranims.txt

Hi,
I`m new here and I have a problem with this program DEFka.

Everytime when I want to replace a creature`s battle DEF, the program DEFka shows an error. This is a example when I want to replace the royal griffin.

"[Warning]
Message: "copy(C:\Program Files (x86)\3DO\Heroes 3 Complete\Data\crgriff.def): failed to open stream:
Permission denied""

and below this is a text with a language I don`t know.

When I click the OK-button the program closes itself.
When I click on the cancel-button it shows a second error message:

"[Warning]
Message: "file_put_contents(C:\Program Files (x86)\3DO\Heroes 3 Complete\Data\crgriff._temp.bat): failed to open stream:
Permission denied""

and below this the same text like that from the first error message.

Please help and reply.

EDIT: I`m sorry my fault. Because I´m using Vista, I have to start the program with administration-rights.

This is called a false positive. Good antivirus as kaspersky let it go.
There is no virus in DefKa, run it on Kaspersky or Norton site.
