For a long time there were stories about horrible monsters living deep below the ground, even below known underworld. Most took them for bugbears, stories only useful to scare children. Until one day strange creatures began to appear here and there, always in huge numbers, and taking what they could carry to the darkness below.
THE NEST
The origin of the nest is unknown, but some that had an opportunity to study it suggest that the creatures might be somehow tained by demonic influence. At any rate, those creatures lived, undisturbed, for millennia in their own world of underground caverns and lakes, cut from the outside world.
Not so long ago, a vast earthquake released gasses amassed in the ground and the nest was faced with extinction. Not thinking twice about it, they dug their way out and scattered to search for food and place to live. The insects primarily feed on fungi and fish, but could find far too little of those to sustain their numbers. Luckly, animal and humanoid flesh isn't that bad...
The creatures started to build their nests all around the underworld, and sometimes even in deep jungles, where they are hidden by canopies from unpleasant sunlight.
Most developed of the insects are intelligent, some frightingly so. They control the entire civilization and produce things like language, symbolics, mathematics, etc. They call themselves the Shevar.
INFORMATION
Alignment: Neutral
Colors: Semi-transparent milky white, yellow, and black.
Worship: None. Shevar are ultimately pragmatic and find a notion of "religion" alien to them.
Core Philosophy: Expand and protect the nest and the queen. Eat what you can find. Ally only with those who are useful and later eat them.
Country/Kingdom: Parts of known underworld.
Capital City: The Mound. Biggest nest and the first one built outside creatures' destroyed realm.
Key Symbols: A mountain with open mouth instead of its top.
Native Terrain: Underground
Hero: Champion (of a nest queen). Rides a huge and unsettling centipede. Resembles humanlike roach.
RACIAL SKILLS:
Engulf - As combat progresses, you cover the battlefield with slippery goo that's bad for enemy and good for Nest units. Your units have +2 to attack, defense, morale and initiative while on the goo, and enemies suffer likewise penalties.
Basic - The goo starts at 2x2 squares and expands at the rate of 2 squares per turn (in random direction).
Advanced - The goo starts at 3x3 squares and expands at the rate of 3 squares per turn (in random direction).
Expert - The goo starts at 4x4 squares and expands at the rate of 4 squares per turn (in random direction).
Ultimate - The goo starts at 5x5 squares and expands at the rate of 5 squares per turn (in random direction).
Abilities for Engulf
Caustic Goo - Enemies take some minor damage while on goo.
Spreading Creep - If your units end its move on a normal square, that square becomes gooed.
