Hi guys - need some help
First of, hi everyone.
Looks like this is a great forum with serious debating.
Thanks
But I need some help - or advice. I've been looking for a thread with opening play. What one might do in the first two weeks of the H5 etc. But as most of these threads have been going on for months I can't find, what I'm looking for.
I hope any of you know where I can look?
Best regards
Jeppe, Denmark

Since no-one's replied yet, the forum to look for is Temple Of Ashan but there hasn't really been any thread seriously dedicated to the subject...mostly just bits here & there.
BUT, [at the risk of appearing to tell you how to suck eggs but here's some thoughts on single-player]:
1. Aim is for main hero to fight monsters to capture any mines while not waiting for reinforcements from town [try not to wait till next week]...take wood & ore mines on 1st day if you can...this typically revolves around creeping (you can look up creeping strategies in contents) eg. using your big shooter stack in corner surrounded by small disposable stacks but place a single creature on other side to lure the monsters away from your shooter corner.
2. Gathering enough resources/gold to be able to build every turn with the aim of achieving capitol/tier 6/7/castle soon as practicable...this can mean hiring more heroes as affordable so your main hero doesn't waste movement picking up stuff that can be done by other heroes & also forming hero chains to ferry new troops from town to main hero.
3. Each faction may prioritise things differently: eg.
haven get crossbows as first priority then aim for cavaliers [no building squires or griffins as not enough ore/wood],
academy - gremlin saboteurs first,
sylvan - sprites first [can kill heaps of slow creatures using no-retaliation hit & retreat out of range tactics] & then arcane archers
4. Hero choice is important, some early great main heroes to better help get started may be Havez/Nur/Dougal/Ossir...Galib with resourcefulness is also good supporting hero for picking stuff up.
Doubtless others have better ideas.

Thanks for the link and the tips was even better.
But I have a few questions. Let's say I'm Haven, I get Dougal.
1. Tavern - with extra hero to supply me with troops and pick up resources and flagging mines.
2. Town Hall
3. Archer tower?
4 Upgrade archers?
And then beeline champions with out wasting wood and ore on griffins and priests etc? This involves buying fort, citadel, city hall and all the small buildings that cost the smallest amount of ore and wood?
If that's so, it makes sense.
So I guess that those champions are gonna mean much more than a few griffins, priests and footmen?

Answers depend on whether playing at hard or heroic difficulty & how much gold/resources are on map
Assuming nothing build, the first 4 actions sound almost good...I'd build archers & its upgrade before town hall if it's not pre-built...40 or so xbows early makes huge difference...you may have to build peasants & upgrades to get to certain pre-requisite town levels without wasting too much wood/ore.
Assuming there is nothing pre-built, sometimes there may not be enough to get tavern first & one may get peasants to help creep first days.
One doesn't have to build fort + citadel before jousting arena but you'd want it soon after.
In addition to damage, the thing is that cavaliers & angels' hitpoints prevent significant losses plus they move far with windstrider boots...2 cavs at wk 2 & 5 cavs at wk 3 is much better than small amounts of lvl 3,4,5 which will suffer some losses in battles...if lucky to get regen then rejoice
Altho laszlo squires + last stand in Creeping challenge! may give some thoughts
I also like choosing resources as start game bonus with haven to alleviate wood/ore shortage.
Visiting the morale/luck boosters before each battle while you are weak may help minimise losses.
Just remember I'm no expert & you will develop your own ways after some games

I'm playing on hard. And this actually worked out fine.
I chose Dougal and the combination og xbows and cavalry blew the neutrals away.
I did end up with too few ressources to upgrade my joust arena, but I presume it was the map. There were very few ressources around.
Now I just need some new and better maps. I'm getting tired of the same maps with 3 opponents. I don't really wanna play with 8 players. It gets to tedious when waiting every turn.
Thank you for your help.
Just to clearify - creeping is when you fight the low level neutrals in the first weeks, right? Got to get into the lingo.
- best regards.

Glad to hear of your play. Yeah don't play random maps against many computer players if you don't want to waste time.
Creeping is just fighting the neutral monsters (no enemy hero).
H5 is a LOT about how to creep maximum monsters with the minimum creatures/hero skills, while taking the most efficient path for main hero without going off course doing unnecessary stuff...
I think some people get much better by pushing the limits & seeing just how much can be done with limited army by studying, testing & reloading battles with different strategies. [but only if one has patience for this]
Funny thing is if you had first posted this in the Temple of Ashan, you would have got a lot more replies...but some would be just short spam posts or may be of questionable value
[you could ask a moderator to move this thread if you wish]

Yes, it's clear to me that you learn a lot with pushing the limits. Often monsters marked as challangeing are duable.
Maybe I should get the thread moved.
But nonetheless, I'm now at it. Learning, replaying and frustrated - as a game should be, when you're advancing.
Thank you for your help.

Hello, new member!
What kind of player are you?
Single or multiplayer?
random maps or custom one?
If you need training i would suggest you to play a little online. we actually have both a regular map tournament and a duel one which is a lot faster.
