possible solution for 7 resources?
I just got myself stuck in the middle of hectic work and it is late in night or should I say early morning past midnight. I got hit by this thinking about 4 resources vs 7 resources. Here is my points:
1. While talking about town convert, why not make a Resource mine convert? The method can use the control area, Resource mine in control area can be converted into another mine of the same rarity without any other need, simply click the mine and convert. Resource outside any area of control (the classic way) must be converted by visiting hero.
2. The ones able to do conversion is only the uncommon Resource mine, Wood, ore and gold may never be converted into anything.
3. *Optional* resource mines convert is one way chain. Possible order: Mercury -> Sulfur -> Gem -> Crystal -> Mercury
each conversion took 1 full day before the mines fully operational. Thus, changing from Mercury to Gems will take 2 full days (in case of visiting hero, the hero must visit the next day to do conversion)
4. *Also Optional* At the beginning of multi player or single scenario map, you may pick 1 uncommon resource, or 2 common resource (wood and ore) that will be placed randomly or in fixed angle by area of control in your first castle of choice. You may also pick random mines just like you random the faction's choice and heroes choice.
5. Unconvertable mines might be present, so in general there are 2 possibility of mines the convertable and the classic mines. For lore-wise reason like (an area rich of sulfur but extremely rare of crystal) or something like that.
6. IN greater extent the new rare resource (I heard it is called dragon blood or mana stone) might present as 8th extremely rare resources For Holy Grail Building requirement or simply a very high exchange in market or to advance class in heroes' class, or to learn rare magic, or as currency for some Unique trader in adventure maps that sell rare artifact.
Is this points will solve the "unbalance" complexity in 7 resources? please tell me your opinion.
Btw, is developer have ever went into this direction, if Yes, is there any specific reason why they not choose this over the reduction to the total type of resource?
Just my 2 cents though.

No, mine conversion doesn't solve the underused issue of 4 resources, and simply makes it easier to get what you want, which adds nothing to the game.
Oh and IMO 'Crystallised Dragon Blood' is possibly the worst resource I've ever heard of, the name ought to be scrapped immediately, and replaced with Mythril, or at least a new name found.
