+100 for Pokemon. ^_^
For another good RPG series of the Japanese variety, I recommend the Dragon Quest remakes that have been leaking into the DS, as well as DQIX which is a DS exclusive.
If you're a fan of the monster collecting subgenre (well I know YOU are Arcax, but I'm aiming this at the forum in general), then you might be interested in Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker. I was a bit underwhelmed, but that's because I had played Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 beforehand (Dragon Quest used to be known as Dragon Warrior in the Western world due to copyright issues), and DWM 2 > DQM:J, but that's just me.
I'll post as I remember more good games.

My 1st game - having a time travel to childhood with a refreshed version of Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal - Pokemon SoulSilver.
It can be a good position for those rock/paper/scissors fans, but its a rock which follows you and have 'feelings', paper using 'Hyper Beam' and scissor that can evolve 
Heh, being 20 and having Pokemon game instead of a girlfriend is pretty... erm...fun! (well as long as youre not thinking about having kids) And thanks to this one you will discover that hanging out with a Pokewalker isnt as bad as it sounds
Basically its a Pokemon Crystal for Gameboy Color supported by some fresh stuff - mainly monsters from generations III and IV, battle moves, minigames (pokeathlon) and much more details which makes it perfect for old veterans of the series and newbies.
The whole system is based on a turn-based battle between two to four monsters which can be found all over the Johto and Kanto regions, but I dont have to describe it It literally hasnt got a plot. To put it short - youre gathering a team of 6 creatures on your road to become the best trainer of Indigo League since Johto still hasnt been provided with its own. Meeting new trainers, collecting rare items, beating up bad guys trying to restore their organisation to former glory and chasing legendary, unique Pokemons.
Theres a small device which I mentioned before that stores your selected Pokemon so you can take it on a date or...erm... walk... It becomes more friendly as you gain special Watt points unlocking new areas to visit or catching rare pokes.
I felt really nostalgic about this one. Obviously it lacks the special charm of older installment, but with Pokemon White and Black just behind the corner I guess its a must position since I bet there will be some way to transfer your team to gen V games.
On a side note Ive just noticed its not suitable for <18 gamers since authors wanted to put an innuendo here and there...
