To madshj and co.: I've read a whole lot of replies on the original thread and honestly some of you really needs a nice big cup of shut the snow up. You guys have it easy. HOTA began in what, 2008? And you are crying because you can't put your grubby ingrate hands on it 2 years later? Some fangames I'm currently waiting for have been in progress since as early as 2003. The first time I heard about the fan made Quest For Glory 2 remake it was in 2001, it was only released 2 years ago.
What a whole lot of you need to understand is that this snow takes time, these guys got jobs, some got spouses, some got kids, some got RL problems that are more important than addon for 10 years old game. They are working on these things in their spare time and they won't see a dime for their efforts so why are you comparing them with video games companies that are paid to work on their games around the clock?

If they do this on their spare time as you say and have REAL lives and stuff, why do they act as If they were paid for it and are professionals? Because HOTA team is the only one that mods a game and asks for PERMISSION from someone to use their work. Isn't that a way of someone who THINKS that he is a professional? For me, the problem is not the fact that its taking them so long (for all I care they can release it on January 1st 2012 ), my problem is with their "holier than thou" attitude which makes them think that none DESERVES to have and use their work... Because If they did it for the fans, as a gift to all Heroes III fans, they would SHARE their progress a long time ago. I think the reason they don't, is that something like this would shatter their ego (if someone used their work on another mod idea).
I don't mean to be quarrelsome or sarcastic or anything, but its just that I'm sick and tired of the way they are bullying around HC, because when you say something about them they are all swearing and insults. Might as well name it HOTA Community...

If you plan to release a cool 'n great mod I totally understand if you'd rather not have all of your new features leaked before you release it. That way, no one will play your mod when it's finally released because it's not new anymore. I see no reason to snow on the HotA team for not sharing their work.

What a happy man! Obviously, you can't share any details? Always wanted to know what the problem with HotA (which, as said, is ready about 99%) that prevent us from beta-testing so far...

Wow... I have to confess, when I saw this thread I thoughy "Wow, maybe it's finally released"... I wasn't disappointed, I have not enough free time to play H3 lately, so I probably would only download it and left it on my hard drive...
Anyway... Angelito... please delete this thread as fast as you can, imo at the moment any other discussion about HotA is pointless... and stupid... and I don't like it...

HOTA is playable but still got some bugs, due to beta testing much of them were detected but i'm sure that not all of them.
now HOTA got only +1 new town, fully functional and working and thats all.
few months ago someone upload very raw version of HOTA but it was closed...someone were just in time and downloaded it but links were deleted very fast.
HOTA team decided that they won't react on provocations and won't releze unfinished project - so we do not have it yet!
final version will consist of it's own campaign, new artifact and many more...like original addon for heroes but fan-made.
and team members nowadays got to do real-life buisness and have less time to work under project. someone - do something. I hope in a week designers will continue their work but final releaze date is still very-very illusive.

I am one of those who was in time to DL those early versions of Hota and I agree with vladud2000. It still has few bugs and it needs to be completed. You woudln't like to play this early demo. Also I agree with Hota team that are taking all this time, they still need to fix and over all polish the mod. Its almost completed, just have the patience.

The only fear I have is that by the time HotA is released, VCMI will be pretty much complete so they'll have to recode it to get many people to play it.

There is no need to fear, both projects may only help each other.
Even when original game is more or less complete, good mod support takes another few months at least. It will offer, however, quite intuitive and easy-to-use modding so no real changes will be needed.

Good to know. I presume with VCMI we'll be able to get the full scope of HotA, with the 2-3 new towns rather than just the 1 the normal H3 coding would allow (with its 256) unit limit?
