HOMM3 Essential Mods Request
Hey guys,
Just getting back into HOMM3, as it seems like it runs on this crappy laptop. Anyway, I used to play a lot back in the day, mainly want to revisit the campaigns.
I have a request for the community. This game has been around for a while, and has had two sequels. We all know that HOMMIV was a bit of an oddball, but it did have some nice features such as caravans. Did any of these ever make it into HOMM3 via mods, etc? I remember what a pain in the ass it used to be to check creature dwellings every week, etc.
Also, have there been any positive balance tweak mods to make some units/spells/tactics more/less useful, etc?
I did do a search before coming here, but the only mods that I found are the total conversion (not my cup of tea) and the HD graphics mod (which I already have).
Looking forward to your replies.

Have you checked the Wake of Gods fan made expansion?
There are various balances for skills and creatures etc.
Also contains other extra features which you may or may not like. (I personally don't like most of the features, and disable every "WoG" feature barring some skill balances)

Thanks for the reply. I had some trouble understanding WoG. Is there a FAQ or guide somewhere that lists the changes? Checked around the WoG forum stickies but did not find anything like that.
Meh, I just want a balance patch, and possibly the new map icons for the heroes. I don't want all of the weird units / features lol.
I do like the idea of being able to toggle specific balance changes, would love to know what you did yourself and how,

Most of WoG scripts lead to utter imbalance, but you can control almost all the features via wogification options before you find out what is nice and what not.

Bah, this game has been around for 10 years and the best that the community has come up with is an imbalancing mod? What about shoring up weaknesses of Fortress, fixing abuse of game mechanics and certain spells, etc?

WoG adds much more things that you can abuse, that's why it's so playable. Makes sense only against AI, though.
The community is not the most successful one, but during last year things improved significantly. You can rant or join us.

There's the Tournament Edition. Use the search function to find old threads about it (just don't mix it up with the H5 mod).
There was also another fan-made patch posted on the Celestial Heavens forums a while ago, but the changes were arbitrary, much like your "weaknesses of Fortress". Finally, Yasmiel tried something similar, although I don't know if he ever got past beta.
While WoG adds a lot of new content, it's first and foremost a modding tool.

In the library, we use to think someone is an amateur when talking about fortress weakness, because it is a damnt strong town. Care to elaborate more about abuse of game mechanics and what spells disturb you?
Quote: etc?
When it comes to mods request, the "etc" is a very vague concept.

Does anyone know if theres a way to contact the wake of gods mod creators? The 3 email addresses on their site dont seem to be functioning and they dont seem to have a forum.
In homm3 you can enable a cheat menue in windowed mode by adding /nwcgrail to the command line of a shortcut, but this doesnt work with the WOG shortcut...(which is strange as the WOG options mention the cheat menue). Is there any way to get it working?
