Something strange going on with broken arrow shooting
Homm 3 Complite.
Thought that broken arrow always means that shooters will deal half damage. Noticed that the expected damage showed different numbers dependig wether there are unit stacks between the shooter and the target or not. If the stack between target and shooter moves away it doesnt give any effect at first. Tested something like that:
All shots with broken arrow.
1. Elves shoot at pikemen. Expected damage 80. (roughly expected damage. Didnt make any real shots)
2. Silver pegasy move between the elves and pikemen so a wall of 3 friendly stacks is formed between the shooter and target. At first there was a "hole in the wall".
3. Elves expected damage is now 60. Pikemen didnt move.
4. Silver pegasy fly away so the wall of friendly units is same as at start.
5. Expected damage STILL 60.
6. Silver pegasy fly around some more a few turns, expected damage still 60.
7. Pikemen move away.
8. Pikemen move back where they would take 60 damage. Expected damage now 80.
Since its a pretty big difference (20%) wonder if theres any convinient way to make it happen intentionally? Like having a barrier of units that are no longer there to reduce ranged damage Sounds good to me!

You probably defended with pikes when not moving them, which gives them more defence. I think thats the explenation.

Im quite sure the 80 damage persisted for several rounds when I did defend with pikes. Though it would be perfect explanation, I clearly wasnt thinking about defend when observing the "anomaly".

The only admirable anomaly with shooters is that they, in some very rare cases, can avoid castle walls penalty even though they must get one (provided there are no special artifacts and walls are not broken).

Try to reproduce the battle and make screens. When the pikes turn come, move them 1 square in order to avoid the defence bonus.
Its not imposible there is some bug with your heroes or whatever. Screens would be good, a video even better.

Personally I give up on trying to reproduce it since I wasnt abled to do it again with a wall of some units and elves shooting at pikemen. So if there is a bug, it seems way too hard to take advantage of it. Wich is why Marettis explanation starts to make even more sense.
