I'm limited to ten poll choices.
Edit: Thanks for your reply. Do you like that size though? Why such an odd one?

1024 x 768 and I use a real monitor (CRT) not one of those flat screen pieces of crap.
Why do you guys use such high resolution? You can't tell the difference.

Are you using a flat screen? What size? Is it wide screen?
Also, how far are you from the monitor? With my arm extended and fingers out, I'm still a full hand short of touching the monitor. Although when I'm doing circuit boards I get my face right up next to it sometimes.
For the kind of work I do I am much more concerned about color saturation, high contrast, sharp crisp edges (no dithering), and true black black levels. With a good quality monitor you shouldn't need a high resolution unless it's a big one. 1024 is kind of borderline for the 19 inch I have now, but even with a 21 inch I can't see needing more than 1280 if you have a good monitor.

Yes, 18.4", yes. If I extend my arm from how I'm sitting now, I would touch the screen and my elbow would still be bent.

I have a 1600x1200 LCD monitor, a 1600x1200 CRT monitor, and 2 laptops with really snowty snow 1280x800 display.
Other than that I could snatch up a 1920x1080 TV, quite good for gaming
When I use the laptops, I get annoyed over the resolution, 1280 is almost good, but the 800 vertical just kills it.

Nah, and besides, I can't stand it when each icon takes up like 20% of the screen.

Just cranck on the DPI, and tada, supersmooth text <3
Also, how can you work with a small display? I know Windows enforces the bad habit of maximizing everything and lack of a tiling Window manager, but beyond that, how can you work on a small screen?! I have problems working on 1280x800 because the screen is far to small, and even divided it gets far to cluttery.

It's the number of pixels. The first number is the pixels on the height and the second is the width. Then there's the common ratios, like 4:3(normal screen) and 16:9 (widescreen). 4:3 means that for each four pixels of height you add three pixels of width.
If you meant the ratios, they're just improvised and later adopted as standards.

Yea, what Joonas said, it's width first then height.
The ratios 16:9 and 4:3 are not pixel ratios. They are the ratios of physical size of the screen (for example 40cm x 30cm screen). The vertical and horizontal DPI are not usually the same, so the pixel ratio and size ratio would not be the same.
I don't know where the 16:9 aspect ratio came from, but I think the 4:3 ratio came from 35mm film.

Think it over once again and find a flaw in your reasoning.
