Old-School Forgotten Realms

Has anybody else played the old TSR AD&D Forgotten Realms PC games, like the original Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, Pools of Darkness,Gateway to the Savage Frontier, Treasures of the Savage Frontier, etc.?
The movement is kind of Wizardry-style(old wizardy, like KOD and Proving grounds of the mad overlord) except on the world map and in battle, which is turn-based, of course. I kind of have a fetish for these old games(what can I say, they're classics) and I was wondering if anyone else knew about them or if I'm just crazy by myself.

Yeah, I still read my Forgotten Realms novels too. I have tons of them, and Dragonlance, even though I haven't gotten any new books in a while. (My last Drizzt book was...I think the one where they got Wulfgar back from Errtu.) Then I borrowed the book about Wulfgar(Spine of the World?) and that's as far as I got. R.A. Salvatore's Demon Trilogy was great reading, too. Does anybody know a place that has those old D&D games for download? I have three of them that I found on a collector's cd in a Goodwill after I lost my old Pool of Radiance.

yes you can find all these games and their journal entries... download an amiga emulator(winuae preferable) and go check some old amiga games.... you can find champions, deaths knights, dark queen of kyrnn and all forgo games(pool of radiance to silver blades, azure bonds) and all ultima series.... its shareware if you play in amiga format but there is also pc collection series for dragonlance(with good prices)
and my last books i read are dragons of summerflame and soulforge(raistlin life start when he is 6 years old!!!)

Forgotten Realms

Like you prophet i do still read and love the Forgotten Realms books and would still like to the play those games.  But with every update ion the computer hardware, the more unlikely it is to play these games.

Because the computer processor is too fast for them now which is a shame.

I am still trying to get the eye of the beholder series to work because of the base memory probs these game need.

Thats how i ended up reading the books.  The harpers, Elminister even Khelben Blackstaff are all excellent characters for excellent books.

I have bought Baldur's Gate 2 and it is swamped in the histories of the FR that i never knew.

The old games were very good and it would be nice to play them again (I hope).

It is nice to hear from another Forgotten realms fan.

Used to play in pencil and paper old school Greyhawk and then Forgotten Realms.  Does that count?
I played a couple of the old D&D computer games, but they never managed to translate well.  After all, a cleric or wizards usefullness to a party translates well beyond glorified first aid kits and artillery and a thief's abilities are mostly useful outside of combat situations (backstab excepted).

Hey, I have that same problem with my pc being too fast. Arrows and spells fly across the screen faster than the eye can follow, and you can forget watching the computer move. I'd have to say my favorite Forgotten Realms "history" books are Elminster and Cormyr. I'm going to look for those games tomorrow and see if I can add to my collection! Fortunately I have an old 286 here if I can just get it running... until then I just stick my 40meg hard drive in my new pc and boot it to dos...ahhhh nothing like the sound of an old drive being accessed.

Well I've got all the games and have finished all but 2 or 3 of them (pools of darkness being one), but have trouble running them now I've also got about 30 or so books from both the dragonlance AND () Forgotten Realms collections including most of the drizzt, Clerical (cadderly and chums) and moonwalker books I've got some pretty unusual ones as well like Maztica (a kind of America to the west of the realms), spelljammer (a space travelling kinda thing) and most of the recent dragonlance books (ie beyond the original legends and chronicles books into the sons, daughters and other relatives of the original chronicles party).

In terms of playing adventures, I've got all of the ones for playing the original dragonlance books which is rare since I wasn't old enough to buy them when they were in print , and about 30 odd from greyhawk, (including an excellent adventure with bigby's house as in the bigby of bigby's hand fame) , forgotten realms and maztica also.

What can I say, I'm something of a fan really most of them I've collected second hand at car boot sales and stuff, the majority of the adventures I got in 1 entire set for £10 with about 100 dice and some figures thrown in

And that's just the second edition stuff

Uhmmmmmmm kinda, it uses 2nd ed rules, but IWD lacks almost totally any kind of character interaction that you see in BG2 or Planescape Torment so it's more of a hack and slash game than a roleplay one IMO

I started playing the old tsr games as a young lass  theyre awesome.  unfortunately i cant seem to get any of them to work on my damn PC.  Technology in this case is a curse.  How do you get them to work? do you have an older pc?  I bought all of the games new on CD ROM but I have weird issues of my PC not running them .... grrr   but its awesome to see someone else who appreciates them... a true gamer indeed.
