Dissecting the Fortress....
Sorry, couldn't find a page like this in the first 20ish pages, and I liked the original Dissecting pages. I guess I'll start, but take my advice w/ a grain of salt, I'm not the best like Frank or Angelito.
For some strange reason, a lot of people say that Fortress sucks (least where I'm from), which is strange, its actually a great town. Tazar=awesome, no idea how many times I had like a Dragon Fly or Mighty Gorgon down to like 5 Health, Armorer special saved me.
Can take most wandering stacks quickly, just build to Mighty Gorgons quick, pwn everything, and while you dont have Mighty Gorgons, Dragonflies make fantastic distraction, easy to keeep them far from enemy w/13 speed, and just make them wander around the battlefield for the next 2 minutes. Nearly beat throng Gnolls day 2 with 3 Dragonflies and 21 Lizards, then ran out of shots whoops...
Only problem with Fortress is so slow.
Thats it, if you got anything else, I'd apreciate, trying to be a good player with Fortress

Here is a great thread made by Conan : http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=13673 it is a thread where is a list of many important threads
anyway fortress is one of my favourite towns and here is my advice in the beginning ON IMPOSSIBLE DIFFICULTY:
Choose Bron as starting hero, he nearly always gets 4-6 basilisk which give a fast start. With those basilisks you could clear all mines easily. Tazar as starting hero is not really good because he starts mostly only with pack of gnolls. Starting bonus ALWAYS resources.
Every week you have a chance to get tazar from the tavern. If you get, then recruit it. But other heroes like christian and gurnisson are better for fortress in the beginning (ballistas rocks). If you recruit a hero who is not from fortress, leave his troops to town and give him fortress units ; he will move faster on swamps.
Get treasure chests and choose golds.
If possible, try to build lizardmens', wyvern's, serpent flies' and basilisk's building before second week. Get the golds and build few serpent flies, all wyverns and basilisks and lizardmens.
After that, you are able to defeat bigger neutral units.

Lol, Bron is probably good start on Impossible, but near end, with Lvl 20 Tazar with stats like 20-20, very hard to deal any decent amount of damage
