Installing new graphics... how?

Well, for some reason this forum became increasingly more organized and now it takes but one topic to easily overview where we can get all the mods, graphics and all the other downloads.

There's just one thing lacking here and that's a proper explanation of how to install it? Most mods use *.wog files, but a lot of "loose defs" don't. For example, I recently downloaded a few artifact defs, but how do I install them? They are accompanied by a *.msg file and a *.msk file. Can someone please help?

A wog file is basically a .rar file renamed to .wog. To properly install defs, msk and msg files, you need 5 txt files in same folder. Their content is explained in GnollKing thread, page 1.

Then you need a complete list of all your files, and this list must be placed in H3sprite.txt, if defs. If bmps, then the list must be in H3bitmap.txt.

Personally I use Total commander program to select all files from a folder, then copy the names to the clipboard, so I don't type millions of names. Then everything must be selected and packed with Winrar, then renamed to .wog.

If you look at simple .wog file (take my commanders for example), you will easily understand how they are done.

I successfully installed those new artifacts now. Thanks for your help.

Now I have one more question about the artifact-matter. If I were to add an own artifact, would I be needing to edit the msk/msg files, or only the def?

The msk (mask) is setting the look in the editor, and must be done for every new object. If you use a new object with the old msk, there are chances that you will see only parts of it, when in editor.

So you must do the new def, and check the case "make msk/msg" and add them all, with the exact name of the artefact you are replacing.

I can not make a right. Wog file. I put in H3BITMAP.TXT. a lot of bmp files, no one of .txt files because update that I downloaded (New Artefacts) does not contain thay.
I starting H3wUpd.exe and I get this messages
- The next Wog File: "C:\ games\Heroes\UPDATE\New Artefacts.wog is broken"
-"Can not open file C: games\Heroes\InstallWoG\H3bitmap.txt"

Where making a mistake?
Sorry for my english

I think this is caused by one or more empty lines in this file.

Yesterday I have the same problem. I am putting 8-bit BMPs to wog-file and got your error message. Then I convert BMPs to 24-bit and successfully install my wog-file.

I tried to do that with my BMPs but again the same error.

@Salamander
Yours .wog work! Thanks a lot. If you have more modes and updates in .wog extension please post them on one place. I want to make that but obviously something is not working properly by me...
