Is Fantasy stronger than ever?
I have a feeling, that the fantasy era is upon us now and is far more stronger than it has ever been for quite a few years.
I believe that it all starting about 2001 and will continue to get even more popular and stronger for the years to come.
Lets looks at the facts:
We have had fantasy films like
Dungeons & Dragons
Harry Potter
Lord of the Rings part 1
After that will be Lord of the Rings part 2. also I read somewhere that they are going to be making a Forgotten Realms series. (whether this is true i do not know)
and as for games there was
Age of Wonders
Baldur's Gate 2
+ Throne of Bhaal
Pool of Radiance (Ruins of Myth Drannor)
Wake of the Gods
Neverwinter
and probably a few more that i have forgotten,
and now Heroes IV will be descending on us in March, followed by Age of Wonders 2?
When Star Wars came, there came a multitude of video games, films and other sc-fi related stuff as well and this last for a good 5 years.
Now Technology has improved and is being improved even as I write this down for producing games, films etc. More fantasy creatures are possible. More fantasy realms are being created.
I want to know is if you guys and girls out there believe if my statement is true and holds any substance to it.
My opinion is that i do believe that the age of fantasy is more stronger and will continue for over the next 2 - 5 years.
What are your thoughts?

Star Wars is rolling down lately. And I know that there are going to be 7 Harry Potter movies, with the 3rd directed by Spielberg. I agree with you, but I wish 3DO followed Return to Castle Wolfenstein. No, I don't mean switching to full 3D. When you type "/cg_uselessnostalgia 1" in the console, the game looks like the original Wolfenstein 3D. And I wish they'd put something like that into HoMM4.

Fantasy in...
Movies:
There were great, high budget projects, whiche tuned out to be a great success. They are, as mentioned, Dungeons and Dragons, Harry Potter, and, of course, The LOTR:The FOTR .
Games:
There alwayb been fantasy games, but this year it is worth to mention games like Baldur's Gate 2, Disciples 2, Wizardry 8 (dedicated to Zud ), Etherlords and more...
In my opinion there are great games to expect:
HoMM 4 - of course, we are waititng for it for a long time, and the more I discover about it, the more I want it.
Ice wind dale 2 - According to the screenshots the game would be beautiful, and should be better that the first, very successful part.
Age of Wonders 2 - This will be (I think) a good game, worth to buy. It will have the things that were good in it plus some extras, like individual town buildings, not just level-ups.
Neverwinter Nights - I didn't relaly know what would it be, but as far as I remember it's an CRPG, in which, as said, the Game Master can be a human, which means a great step towards the old-fashion paper-n-dice way.
MtG: 0line - This will be the gretest game-room ever (a cool looking one too - see screenshots). Lots of stuff will be happening...
Warcraft 3 - according to all I herd the game will erase the previous ones even out of the most hardcore fanned mind - great graphic, races, cretures... for more info you should consult Wesley .
World of Warcraft - The inside look on the world where all the Warcraft action happens. I would be glad to see some interaction between Warcraft 3 and WoW.

Has everybody forgotten about Diablo2? It's a phenomenon lately, as Blizzard's games (I think) are the best. And if Diablo isn't fantasy....

Yes, yes...
But Diablo2 is bad example... This game is not RPG, I think... This is only running with sword and kill everything that is moving... And this is fantasy...? This is RPG? Role playing game? I don't mean that it is bad game... Because I think it's good, and I like it... This is my opinion, don't take it personally

Ok, first, I have to disagree about Warcraft 3. It won't erase the previous ones from all minds. I will still choose W2. About HoMM4 - my situation is quite on the contrary - the more I get to know about it, the less I want it.
And for Scorpio - games like these are called "Hack'n'slash" or "dungeoncrawlers".

Hey, I just wanted to help you. It's easier and quicker to type in a word or two than several sentences just to explain what kind of games you're talking about. And I guess you're online at the moment, we can IM about it.
