I have mixed feelings about holidays. It always feels a bit artificial when I'm suddenly obligated to be happy, romantic, cheerful, what have you on a select day. Considering my sentiment may or may not happen to fall in line with how I'm supposed to be feeling during a certain time, some years I like it more than others. A lot has been said about how, for example, depression and suicide rise during the Christmas season. It's not surprising because people pressured into feeling a certain way will often induce the opposite reaction. A person in a mildly bad mood or average mood might have their friend slap them on the shoulder and be like 'CHEER UP BRO, IT'S CHRISTMAS' and suddenly their mildly bad mood becomes a severely bad mood because of constant external irritants. "Cheer up" might possibly be the most ill-thought, ignorant ass phrase in English vernacular.
Of course, as a son, it is my civic duty to be irritated by my aging mother. My mother is ****ing notorious for this. She likes everything to be a certain way and will navigate the goddamn dinner party like a ****ing unofficial referee trying to make sure everything is "perfect" (whatever the hell that is suppose to mean), and it inadvertently makes her a top tier mood-killer, i.e. the exact opposite of what she is trying to accomplish. I wish she would just sit down and shut the **** up before I have to do a Johnny Cage split and punch her right in the uterus.
Then again I have a pet peeve when people idly ***** and moan about things that are outside of their sphere of control (weather, traffic accident blocking up the road, etc. Seriously, grow a dick and get over it.), and holidays aren't just going to disappear overnight, and I'm not going to waste my time being a culture warrior by refusing to have any part in it. I'll let culturally ostracized people with an overdeveloped sense of self-importance try to do that. I shut my mouth and try to make the best of it. A lot of people gain a sense of order by having milestones in their year.

I don't think that's the reason people get depressed - on average - during the holidays. Most of the people who get depressed during Christmas are those who have lost close loved ones (spouses, children, parents). Holidays make the feeling of loss more poignant because the of memories. (I.e., I used to have such great memories of Christmas with my husband, now he's dead and I'm alone on Christmas.)

i feel sad for these people, who are so duped by their media-pushing overlords. i understand the need for care, loving attention, to be held, kissed, to ****. i honestly feel for these people who are so sad because they cannot find what the movies and books tell them they can, and more importantly, SHOULD(sarcasm). this weakness to "love" makes me love people as much as i hate them. i want to hold them, and tell them that it'll be ok(*sniff* ). when they persist in being miserable, i want to bash their brains in for being so needy and thoughtless.
it's nice to have company, but I really don't think it's a need. there are even people who fear to stay alone. I think it would piss me off to always have company. especially when loved ones tend to be inquisitive.

Happy Valentine's day everyone! I dont particularly like the premise that there is one special day to show people you love em (with gifts of all things, flowers I am down with tho), but I aint so ignorant to deny that many people feel this way, so happy Valentine's day! :3

yeah, idgaf about the holiday either. romance isn't something forced, or scheduled. romance is more spontaneous. love too. it's funny to see all the single people at the grocery store, though. out looking for love, in all the wrong places.
