Playing your latest beta build on my Axis of Evil map and I'm getting crashes while loading during battles. Also, the ultimate artifact map covers a standard aspect ratio (non-widescreen) with the area leftover revealed from the get go.
*edit*
Seems like it's a rare and random crash 1 in every 10 loads and it can happen out of battle as well.

That's what I feared. I had the same effect when loading a savegame from 3.1b and playing with 3.1.8.
The NCF/RPE game database fix can break savegames. Even if you do so much as loading a savegame from 3.1b with 3.1.8, then return to the main menu and start a fresh game, it can have a wrong game database layout in the memory. Even if nothing appears wrong at first, save the game and restore it later, it can be subtly corrupted.
If you indeed used a savegame from an earlier version, this could explain the crashes. If you start a fresh game, after a clean reboot of 3.1.8 it should work fine. If it does not there is something else amiss that needs to be investigated. Another possible cause is, if you changed something on the map and loaded an earlier savegame. That may cause similar bugs as the NCF/RPE fix.
Regardless, I will roll back the NCF/RPE game database fix. I will replace it with a more clean approach in 3.1.9 that will not cause savegames to be incompatible.

I noticed it too, just open the puzzle map with 3.1.8 and 3.1 and you will understand. The map isn't centered and the areas around it are not black.

I'm still getting the occasional crash even when then game is freshly made from 3.18 without nfc/rpe installed and if it still helps:

Hi, I'm new here so I hope I'm doing it right.
First off: Thanks for the mod.
3.1.8b
The bug I'm experiencing is similar to what rpguy describes on page 2. I'm playing through the TotE campaign on Hard, currently at map 3 of Asha's Will, but only due to the AI not moving at all any more. This started at a random, fresh game start, first save game load.
AI literally just stands still, also in the next map now, I could just run up to where Ornella meets Arantir and seize the red castle; it wasn't guarded or build up at all.
Specs:
Win 7 64-bit
4GB RAM
3.8GHz Phenom II

Don't use 3.1.8 for the campaign. We still have to figure out a clean way for the NCF/RPE database fix. 3.1.8 is mostly for the modders to experiment with.
Use 3.1b for the campaign, or in the next week there will most likely be 3.1c with a ton of improvements, fixes and some surprises.

No apologies needed, it's technically not a bug because the .pak was never intended for release. The eight skills enhancement comes with the next upgrade. Very good work on your part, I will say more to it with the upcoming release.

On the subject of skills modding could you also remove some of the restrictions currently in the exe:
-witch hut behaviour modifyable for different classes.
-make function of training building dependant on having counterstrike skill, not being class_knight.
-make function of elemental chains skill+building dependant on having irresistable magic skill not being class_warlock.
-make runic magic work with any class for any faction (likely useful for new factions)
-make bloodrage skill work for any class => for any creature that is branded 'demonic blood' (useful for special inferno class with bloodrage instead of gating)
-add a scroll function to the avenger guild.
EDIT: My intention with the removal of these limitations is to review the current RPE skill system to be balanced and revised for 8th skill slots

Scroll Bug
I'm using 3.1b w/ ToE. No other mods. Random Map.
My hero has a Scroll of Advanced Meteor, but in battle the spell damage is not being listed/cast at the advanced level.
9+9x(SpellPower of 4) = 45 (I also have Emerald Slippers) => 67 **This is not the advanced level as the scroll says**
It should be 15+15x(SpellPower of 4) = 75 (Emerald Slippers should move it to 112.)
I suspect this bug might be hitting all scrolls and possibly wands too.

These battles are against neutrals... any neutrals. No bone ward, etc.
Just start up a test map and start with a scroll to see.

Crash in the campaign
Dear Folks,
When I complete the Scenario Beast & Bones in the Campaign the game kicks me out with an error message that reads - Heroes Of Might & Magic has stopped working. I have the latest patch 3.1. Is there a way to fix this?
