Creature Arrangement
Okay, I just had an idea for a new creature arrangement system. Right now, we have 7 slots into which we can stick any units (AFAIK), but this means that we can have an army that varies in width from 7 spaces to 14 spaces, which IMO isn't as good as it could be, and so I've come up with a new method, arranged as such:
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
| | | | | | | | | | |
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
| | | | | | | | | | |
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
This gives you more control over how your units start a battle (they appear on the battlefield in exactly the same positions as on the grid), allows you to recruit both base and ungraded units without having to worry too much about ditching creatures, and allows you to use tactics that haven't previously been available, like guarding an archer stack with less than half your army.
An example of the setup would be as such:
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
| | | |C|D| |F|F| |
+-+-+-+-+-+ E +-+-+-+
|A|B|B| |D| |G|H| |
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
In this setup A, B, C, D, F, G and H are stacks of small creatures and E is a stack of large one.

So... you're suggesting that the party/garrison setup should be instantly the same as the battle setup?
Hm. Sure. Why not. That's a good idea, actually. However... would it let someone put twenty small stacks in his army somehow? Or twenty stacks, but composed of only seven creature types in total? That'd be actually kind of cool...
Also, how would it work with the recurring Tactics ability?

Nope 20 stacks of anything. Mind you, the morale penalties for multi-faction armies would tend to limit you to units from your own faction.

Well you'd still get to arrange your forces pre-battle, you'd just get a little more space to do it in. To be honest though, I never really liked the fact that you had to get a skill/perk to properly arrange your units.

Eh, morale penalties. Enough leadership and artifacts can fix anything!
*starts thinking what units are small while being high-tier*
...at least this can be a countermeasure.

I just realized this. I'm amazed, this is GREAT!
For tactics, I say, jsut let tactics allow you to increase the whole grid, and, since this is a very major effect, maybe make it a Main Skill.
For faction crossing penalties...hwo about instead of just a morale penalty, also a MAXIMUM morale for cross-faction armies? So like, with 1 faction only oyu have nor morale max. With 2 factions, a maximum morale of +1 and a penalty of -1. With 3 different factions, a maximum morale of 0 and a penalty of -2. With 4 different factions, a maximum morale pf -1 and a penalty of -3, etc. ...or similar.

maybe there should be 2-4 lines more. you can only fit 5 large creatures on that battlefield.

The battlefield's only 12 spaces long, there isn't room for much more space to be given to starting positions.

Oh sure, I was just designing it for what we have, not what we want.

It took me a minute or two to realize what you are suggesting, but now that I get it I think it's a great idea!
Just imagine, 8 stacks of various core creatures all ganging up trying to take down a Cyclops lol.
IMO tactics should be more creative than just adding a new row. How about something where at the start of combat you get 1 wooden wall (that reduces ranged damage to the creatures behind it by 50% and it has 200 health), 1 cauldron of hot oil (that can be flung 1 time by a catapult to provide burn damage over 3 turns to a target), and a 1 time bonus of +2 initiative to any one creature you want for the first turn only. I think that'd be fun and still be tactically useful/interesting.
