I can't install HOMM3, please help!
When I had Windows XP years ago, installing and playing Heroes III was never an issue. It wasn't even an issue installing it on a desktop fitted with Windows Vista when I got a new PC.
For many months, on the occasion, I've tried to install the game onto a laptop I bought, which also has Windows Vista, however, this is all to no avail. Everytime, without fail, when it is installing, it stops at 76% and freezes. After about 10 minutes of a comatose state, an error pops up saying:
An error occurred during the move data process: -106
Component: Sound
File Group: mp3
File: COMBAT04.MP3
What is going on?!
It might also be worthy of pointing out that I fail the DirectX test everytime, even though I have DirectX 11 and have previously installed every other DirectX version singularly. Although, it does say on the CDs ReadMe file that if your DirectX version is up to date, ignore what the test tells you.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is by far one of the best games I have ever played, despite how ancient it is.
Thanks

it is likely that your CD is scratched ir unreadable in some other manner.. try with another CD drive ant/or wipe the disc with clean and dry cloth.
the directX test result isn't important: the installer doesn't recognise newest versions if it.

Thanks for the replies.
I wouldn't be surprised if the disc was damaged to be honest, I've had this game since it practically came out. Although, the game installed fine on another Desktop PC I had which was Vista, and installs fine on Windows XP computers.
I downloaded Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier, but it is insanely slow to copy the files - it has been going for at least 2 hours now. Any ideas on why?

Either it's medium, mechanic or both. If it works somewhere else likely this mechanic have problems with reading scratched cds.
Then the solution is simple, try other/better one.
Also you can move it to usb stick and install from here.
And you don't need to install it at all - if you will copy main game dir from a pc where it's already installed on the same place in the new computer and run setupreg it will work (Guaranteed under WinXP)

I tried to copy it all onto a USB Stick, however, when it starts copying HEROES3.VID (which is ~310MB) , and gets to around 100MB left to copy, it stops, and says there is an error. If I press 'Try again', it will try copying the whole file all over again and stop at the same place, and if I press 'Skip', the whole 310MB is skipped, and I'm pretty sure this file is the actual game.
What now? :S
