What is this, I don't even...
Mages are experimental, as much as they are lazy. They made orcs and beastmen just so they themselves didn't do anything. But think about where they come from. With beastmen, you aren't looking for very powerful things here. Combine bird and human, get harpy. Bull and man, minotaur. Yes, these creations are quite useful, but in the end they have their limits. Demons, however, have much to go through for them to reach limitations, and so do the orcs. Minotaurs and harpies aren't magical, but orcs can be.
But still, orcs aren't all that much better. SO what is better than some animals and demons, especially in Ashan? That's right, dragons. Fuse godly creature with man, you get a reptilian creation right there. Lizardmen would be a little more than just archers at tier 2/core level.
And don't tell me mages wouldn't do it. If they are stupid enough to think that using demons would work out, they would again with dragons. Even if they don't want slaves to have dragon's blood flow within them, they could just do it to them selves. If you fuse a blood thirsty killing machine with a man, and you get a some how more blood thirsty killing machine, what would fusing a godly beast to a man do to them? If mages think that magic dragons blood is so precious, they are bound to use it on themselves at some point.
Well, Ubi probably won't go for this idea. But I for one think this is a great way to bring mages back in the game, at least for a plot line. So if they do go for it, then I get to claim that I was right!

The wizard faction is one of the few endearing things about Ashan.
You have these arcane scientists who are completely full of themselves conduct experiments on not only animals but humanoids too, just like in real-life science: "Oh man, I shouldn't be doing this, but if I don't, someone else will and steal mah thunder!"
There really isn't that much of a moral difference between Necromancers and wizards. Wizards tamper with life, while Necromancers tamper with death.

must-not-self-advertise...
I made a fanfaction just about that!
...gah.
Anyway. It all depends on how does dragon blood work. It seems that demon blood has this mutation-inducing effect on people, so it actually works for such experiments. But dragon blood... probably just lethal to humans, with no chance of utilizing it that way. Probably. We've had Mutare in H3, right? I can't remember how did it go, but...

From what I remember, Mutare drank the blood of the dragons, and became some horrifically destructive black dragon, but unfortunately we can't actually draw from her for examples considering she exists in the worlds before Ashan, so really, anything goes for dragon blood now. Supposedly, eagle sits on a lion while it was stuck in a dragon blood river fused them together to make a griffin, so who knows what will happen.
And good job not advertising. I barely even noticed!

That's how the legend seems to go indeed. Those rivers had magic in them, too, but that's nothing the wizards can't reproduce.
...still, so far, in this case, dragon blood&magic is shown to be able to fuse creatures together. In other words, they'd still need a live dragon...

Hm, I don't know. In order for a river to form, a lot of blood needs to be spilled, so I don't think a living dragon is required. But then again, fresh blood might be more powerful (that's how myths and fairy tales say it works, right?) If that is true, then a whole dragon needs to be coerced into coming with the mage, or the mage just does the experiment where all other dragons can see. Either way, that mage better have some crazy stuff to do if he needs his dragon slave/power all for himself. World domination, maybe?

Definitely not something to be mass-produced into a race, either way. Won't fill a faction...

YAY! Lizardman for champion?!
AWESOME.
And I think that this would be a great opurtunity for H3 Fortress to return.
It could be like:
M&M: Heroes 6 (the on that is probably getting launched in may/june)
M&M: Heroes 6 Path of the dark (introducing the elves and dark elves separation)
M&M: Heroes 6 Demigod (academy and a lizardmen faction and with a story about creating the dragon-men)
M&M: Heroes 6 Shields of life (With the dwarves and conflux factions and a story)
Then we get all of our factions and this amazing story.

And all four parts would earn Ubisoft money, woo!
...yeah. Anyway... if the dragonmen were just champion tier for some faction, I guess it'd be fine.

but then they would need to become extinct in the last campaign or mmH7 if it's going to be after mmH6 and before Homm5

Same thing with the nagas, really... that's the curse of being a prequel.
I really wonder how will they explain that.
