Mustaffa nodded and left the lab, he was not interested in hearing the same story twice and therefor decided he would instead start his search at once. He would start with the feeding stations, as that was the best place to find several people at once. He walked through the corridors he had already memorized and arrived shortly at his first destination, the feeding station was filled with people despite the lack of food choices at the moment. He raised a hand and called for attention, which didn't take long to get considering his size. He waited for the last few to stop talking then smiled at them, which did not have the effect he intended, so he spoke quickly instead.
"I am to inform you that no one is allowed to walk alone on this aircraft until further notice, this is procedure after a very long travel in cryo and is just to eliminate any chance of complications. Children must be accompanied by at least none adult. If anyone see or hear anything out of the usual I want you to find either me or Commander Whitemoon." he paused. "Any questions?"

When Alex called out to him, Basil replied: "I'm no miracle-worker, mate."
When somewhat later Mustaffa came into the cantina, Basil had half the contents of the food processor's innards spread out in his taped off area.
With minor interest he listened to the speech given by the large man. His mind was mostly occupied by the many wot-nots that barred him to get his hands on the faulty ioniser. His body was waist-deep in the machine.
The order was strange, but Basil figured that Whitemoon wanted show who's boss at the first oppertunity.
Post-cryo complications, my sweaty socks! This is just to keep the civs in line and out of the way. But Basil kept those thoughts to himself.
At long last Basil had removed enough parts to reach the ioniser. The problem was some simple faulty wiring. Thing was he now needed a cable-stripper and he new that he didn't pack one in his own toolkit. So he checked his PDA and saw that some were kept in a kit on the commandbridge for Pete's sake.
"Slag it! Those bogans that packed this ship were thinking out their arses!"
Basil wandered out of the cantina, of to the commandbridge.

"Yeah!" One civilian, a male about six and a half feet tall called out, "Why do we talk to the commander and not the captain? Isn't he supposed to be the one we talk to?" Some civilians mumbled in agreement, but didn't find the courage to speak up like he had.

"Every journey is different, which you obviously haven't learned yet." Mustaffa answered, just like a teacher who is preaching to a student. "No one is alike. You will always experience new things and unknown dangers and complications. This journey my thawing systems actually broke down and woke up half frozen, which is a first for me despite almost fifty previous guardian jobs."
He paused slightly to gather his thoughts and think of a believable story. "We do not think there are any danger to you, but it is better to be on the safe side of things. I wouldn't want anything to happen to any one of you, as it is my job to keep you safe from any harm. That is my job and I do it very well, so if you wish to stay out of danger you will do what I tell you."

Mustaffa shook his head. "That is technical details and none of my business. You will have to ask some of the responsible crew about that, my job really starts once we finally get down there."
With that he headed back to the armory to look for motion-sensitive detectors. They were one of the most important pieces of equipment when travelling to new destinations, and he really hoped they had brought some aboard. ((Gnomes, I don't know if they are aboard and do not wish to powerplay ... so are they? ))

- Doesn't matter. Just explain.- Alex said.- You do know that failure to safely contain dangerous xeno species, thus endangering the crew is a serious offense? If at least one of the crewmen gets killed, it lands on your shoulders, Captain.- The last word had a sense of sarcasm in it.- The penalties, if I remind you, is stripping you of your rank, a lifetime vacation in a penal work camp of the tribunal's choice and even the syringe if the judges are ruthless enough.- The syringe is the death penalty, ensuring quick and painless death. It was only admitted to the worst, iredeemable criminals.- Just hope that Mustaffa cleans out the infestation before someone is found dead.

"Mustaffa? I don't expect him to clean out anything. I expect him to keep the civilians from getting harmed, and maybe kill one of the things. They wouldn't attack something four point six five three times their own size. No," Whitemoon pointed at his chest, "I'm going to be the one that exterminates them. I'm the only fully-grown and trained crewman that can fit in the ventelation shafts."
"Regardless, here is the short version. Probes found the planet we are currently hovering over. While examining it, they picked up the eggs from a primative life-form. Somehow, those eggs were able to suvive the vacuum of space long enough for the probe to return with viable samples. the Bureaucrats," He emphasized that last word, "Ignored my protests that we should wait for the things to hatch and launched this mission immediately. The eggs were contained to the best of my ability," The Commander opened up the storeroom door and raised his pistol, "In that." He gestured at the cage. "That was dimond plaited, thousand fold high-tensile carbon steel, the metal that only the heaviest support battleships and transports have around their power cores. These things ate it. The only way I could have contained them better would have been to kill the little buggers, but I was ordered not to by our late captain."
"Any more questions?"

- Taking in eggs of unknown xeno species before closely examining the properties of a grown up specimen, real wise.- Alex said.- I'm not even a xenobiologist, and yet even I know that it's a stupid decision. You've should have taken higher precautions than a carbon steel container. Let me tell you this thing though. It takes a lot of time to get your mind working properly after a xeno related attack.

"You're right of course. Higher precautions should have been take. I told them to eradicate the samples. The Bureaucrats wouldn't listen to me. They just asked what material I would use to contain an unknown subject. Naturally, I chose the most durable, least reactive and most acid resistant substance know to man. As I said, they ate it." A pair of eyes peaked out from behind a beaker. The commander stopped talking. "Do you think that you can memorize what this things brain pattern is?" Whitemoon whispered.

Arlea's 'shortcut' had taken her deeper into the bowels of the ship. She was now scouting alongside the ships nuclear reactor propulsion systems. As she gazed at the huge neutron chambers, the lenses of her eyes constricted and filtered as she became aware of the vast dancing pattern of stray neutrons that filled the chamber around her. She was aware that a full human would never be able to enter the area without full radiation lead lined atmospheric protective suits, yet she walked alongside freely and without any discomfort or negative effect.
She quickly checked the chambers protective graphite shell. The stray neutrons were a normal occurrence, but it would be prudent to check there was no damage to the graphite lining. She then checked the satuation hydrogen water tanks. "All appears normal, in fact its running beautifully", she thought.
She eventually walked through the vast chamber and sealed the safety doors and magnetic screen behind her. "Well those little buggers won't be nesting in there", she thought aloud then noticed the emergency evacuation shaft just off to the left. "Ahh this should take me back to the air lock before the medical lab". And Arlea quickly climbed the long ladder upwards.

"I think that they have a primitive hive mind-like structure. As far as I could tell, their brain was too primitive to let the creatures do little more than the basic functions of life and move when alone. But when they are close to one another, they are potentially dangerous." Whitemoon leveled the pistol at the lone creature and took tentative steps toward it. It blinked lazily at him and made an almost bird-like chirp. "Not even a hint of fear or tenseness..." The commander's hand shot into the jars and grabbed it. It continued to be docile. "Not even a hint of alarm. They are harmless alone."

- We have flamethrowers in our armory right? Given my ability I may be able to control them for a short period of time. It worked on animals that have hive minds. You think we could give it a try?- Alex said while reloading his gun. The empty clip could also be used as a fragmentation grenade. This was common in most smaller firearms, from pistols to light SMGs.

Arlea noticed the creature. She stopped immediately. The thing hadn't noticed her and was just sitting there, not even moving. Arlea could smell it. A weird acrid smell, one she had never experienced before .... strangely familiar, yet not. She couldn't place it. "Better get this back to Whitemoon", she thought .... and slowly and silently removed a cloth bag and metal pole restraint from her backpack. After slipping on protective gloves, Arlea launched herself through the air and in a split second she had it. The alien never saw or felt her coming, it barely had time to react .... but gave off a ferocious hissing as Arlea unceremoniously stuffed the wriggling creature into the bag.
Feeling rather proud of her catch, Arlea made her way to Whitemoon.
