As you see, the number of accidental deaths from firearms is relatively small. You could save a lot more people's lives just by getting them to pay attention to where they are stepping.

Slips, trips, and falls account for 13,322 deaths per year
Gun accidents 776.

Fallacy of False Choice.

740 people die in the US per year from riding bicycles.

Ban bicycles!

A whoping 5,870 pedestrians die per year in accidents. Ban walking anywhere near where there is other means of transportation!

Quote:
The study found 1,676 Americans were reported to have drowned in a tub during this five-year period, an average of 335 a year. Infants, very young children and the elderly are at risk, but more than half of all tub deaths are among able-bodied people between the ages of 5 and 64.

Ban bathtubs!

but unlike guns, bathtubs and bicycles aren't specifically designed to kill people. here, you are only talking about accidents. but bathtubs and bicycles, when used correctly, don't normally kill. guns used the right way kill, that's their purpose.

Guns when used properly by an honest person will not result in the deliberate death of another honest person (except for perhaps an occasional accident.) Well, of course there are honest soldiers on opposite sides of a war that will die but that is not the issue.

Fewer people die in accidents involving guns than die in many common activities people engage in. It is possible to reduce the number of accidental gun deaths (which is pretty small already compared to the total number of guns owned in the US) through a person handling a gun properly.

Of course in the real world there will never be a time when there are no accidental deaths because people are not perfect, the things they build is not perfect, and the world is not perfect.

As I said before, if you want to reduce the number of purposeful gun deaths society can do that quite easily by being tough on crime. A rather huge portion of crimes is committed by repeat offenders. There are lots of repeat offenders primarily because liberals blame everyone but the criminal for the crime and pretend that the criminals can be rehabilitated a place them back on the streets to rape, kill, and steal again.

Liberals would much rather take away the right of people to defend themselves properly and sacrifice innocent people instead of punishing criminals. And say that killing someone to protect yourself is murder.

The old, the sick, the injured, the "handicapped", the "weak", the "clumsy" and pretty much everyone else must be at the mercy of criminal in a liberal's world. They are quite willing to sacrifice honest civilians to maintain the "right" of criminals to roam free and to commit their crimes in safety.

I doubt it is that simple. maybe criminals can't be rehabilitated, because people such as you, whatever their efforts to become better, will always consider them as criminals?

and then, since you aren't going to change your view, why should they do any effort to change themselves? what do they gain from living honestly when they are still criminals in everyone's eyes?

Ah yes, part of the tradgedy of war. Same with civilian casualties.

Every conflict has both, and each side has said honest soldiers, only doing their duty. Neither is evil, only a tool used to inflict death by some detatched, far removed politician.

Edit: Back to the subject.

The availability of guns raises incidents of both misuse and proper use of guns. Plain and simple.

And what I think, when I see the crime statistics of Texas in comparison with the other US states, where Texas is Top 20 in all categories and even top 10 in some, if Elodin was right, how 3rd-wordly a State Texas would be with a civil legislation. I mean, If Texas has that high a crime rate even IF you can shoot everyone touching your car, not to mention your front door - following Elodin's logic, how would it look with more moderate laws?
Wouldn't every sensible US citizen move to a State like, for example, one of the Dakotas where it is comparatively a lot more peaceful?

I'd move to Maine. Highest average intelligence score Besides, the Quest Compound was there.

On serious note, I'd say when people are growing up with the abundance of guns and appreciation for killing (in self defense), their morals get somehow twisted compared to no-gun, killing-is-wrong attitude of other states or countries.

You need more Batman comics @ Texas. Batman refused to kill criminals, even the biggest psychopaths, and they were all after him 24/7. A good example I'd say. Hey Elodin, do you think Batman is an idiot for not blowing a hole in every criminal's head?

Batman kills bad guys in a number of comic issues AND carries a gun. And Batman kills bad guys in the movies.

What Texas needs is for the federal government to let it secure its borders. Mexican gang violence is a big problem the Yankees don't face.

In the early (1940s) comics he actually shot some of the criminals.

And according to the comics, Ra's Al Ghul can be resurrected even if a finger of his would survive

Holy, Batman with a gun looks so... unnatural

Well I guess I've read only those where he expresses his dislike towards killing (and guns).

"The dark knight" movie of 2008 also pictures that stance

Gotta love states like Texas and Oklahoma where you are allowed to actually defend yourself. Without a gun the woman would probably be dead instead of the home invader.

Authorities don't plan to file charges against an Oklahoma woman who fatally shot a New Year's Eve intruder at her house while she had a 911 dispatcher on the phone, but the intruder's alleged accomplice has been charged in the death.

A 911 tape released to Oklahoma City media outlets Wednesday reveals that 18-year-old Sarah McKinley asked a Grady County dispatcher for permission to shoot the intruder. McKinley's 3-month-old son was with her when she shot Justin Shane Martin, 24, at her Blanchard mobile home.

"I've got two guns in my hand. Is it OK to shoot him if he comes in this door?" McKinley asked the dispatcher.

"Well, you have to do whatever you can do to protect yourself," the dispatcher is heard telling McKinley. "I can't tell you that you can do that, but you have to do what you have to do to protect your baby."

Oklahoma law allows the use of deadly force against intruders, and prosecutors said McKinley clearly acted in self-defense. According to court documents, Martin was holding a knife when he died.

What will now ensue is a several pages long discussion during which I will sit back and munch on some popcorn because my language blissfully does not differentiate between verbs "to kill" and "to murder".
