I need an emulator
I currently run Windows 7 Home Premium, though I have had the same problems with Windows Vista, pretty much any Windows past XP.
For Heroes of Might and Magic 3, I can run the game, though it crashes quite frequently (about every 20 - 60 minutes). I can tolerate it, but it still gets extremely annoying.
My real problem is Heroes Chronicles; I can't run it at all. It just goes to the black screen, shows me the new game cursor, and gives me the "Heroes Chronicles (any version) has stopped working" message.
I tried looking for an emulator, and I've downloaded at least 10. None of them do anything. I don't know if I'm misusing them or if they're just crappy emulators. Does anyone here know an emulator that works? If so, could you please send me a link and perhaps give me a tip on how to use it? Thanks.

I dont if this helps, but when I have a game that does not work I try to run it in the compability mode. Like when I had dungeon keeper II.
To do this right click on the icon of the game, select properties -> compabilty - check the box "this program run in compability for... and select the operating system you want. I dont know how exactly it looks in windows 7, because I have Vista, but Im pretty sure that it will be similiar.
Hope that this will be of any help

If you have your windows XP disc, you can download Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and install XP as a virtual machine. Homm 1-4 do not need anything that a virtual environment can't provide.

Hi, I think I might have something for your problems with 3. I tried changing the compatibility settings, music settings, etc. and was still having the same crashing problem that you describing until I saw this tip online that uses this. (The instructions are for the GOG version of the game but they work on a normal game as well). I think it's ended the problems for me, hopefully it can work for you too.

Heroes Chronicles (chapters 1-8) are perfectly working on any operating systems (2000/XP/Vista/7 x86/x64). The only problem with HC games are nonworking cracks/No-CD (especially for Heroes Chronicles: The Final Chapters). Try to run HC game with original EXE from original CD or Clone Image.

I noticed HOMM3 is crushing due videocard issues (If You got Intel i3, i5 or i7 processor, You dont need videocard at all & Heroes will not crush without videocard).
Im playing original Heroes 3 complete btw. Using Windows 7 64-bit edition (Ultimate & Home Premium) on My gaming computers.
