The Heros
With Heroes IV almost upon us, does anyone know if the game allows the hero to move about and engage monsters on his OWN without any creatures.
The Creatures can do that but can the hero also do that.
We can have more heroes in one army, creatures roaming on their own but what about the hero themselves?
Anyone know?

I don't think a single hero will get very far though.. Especially if he gets into a fight with a moderately sized army. They can go toe to toe with anyone, but not 1 vs 10 units.

We'll be surprised on how many creatures a well-built 10lev hero can take down,not long range units i guess..
..i read somewhere an example by a beta tester-cant remember where-and he took down like lots 1stlev-pack 2nd-and one 4thlev in a single battle!
UNFORTUNATELLY....this smells like some bad side-effects for MPlaying:
_More fights per turn-->Longer turns
_Misculculated battles-->Hero loss-->Deliberate drops

Turn based games in multiplayer have never had the pacing to actually be fun (waiting for even one person is bad enough let alone 7). I don't bother anymore. SP is good enough. For multiplayer, I play RTS.

With what level hero? I've heard of someone taking a pack of 1st levels with a 1st level hero.
BTW, I think (not confirmed, of course, but judging by all the screenshots so far it seems reasonable) that a 1st level hero gets 100 hp and it goes up 10 per level after that (level 10 heroes have 190, level 14 have 230, level 34 have 430). I haven't seen any Barbarian screenshots, so they might grow faster or start higher, but I doubt it.

well, there's an easy solution to this...
Make wandering monsters stronger.
Also, will you be willing to send your lone hero too far alone? Because you must remember, there are NEUTRAL HEROES lurking, along with creatures that can move... so you'd be taking a chance, unless the creatures u were killing was right next to ur castle.
I see no reason to panic here. I mean, theres no way that 3do could not have seen this problem, and compensated appropriately... it just couldnt happen.

Hmm... seems more like Lords of Magic/Age of Wonders. Age of Wonders more so the Heroes were big powerhouses against certain creatures, but only to a point. Combination of spells and abilities would often allow Heroes to take on many creatures, but there was always a chance your hero would die!
Lords of Magic there always was the warrior lord which had the better chance of killing lots of creatures easily, especially creatures like elven staffmen, whom when strung out could easily be defeated one by one. With the thief lord it was easy to simply snipe creatures from a distance (which might be a possibility with the grandmaster stealth skill) And the mage could take on a large group with the right spells.
I think Heroes IV will be the same. Heroes will not be able to go toe to toe with your regular conquering army, but will be able to do some adventuring on their own (especially useful for clearing out mines or bunches of low level creatures) and will be powerful in regular battles (it will probably be a priority to take out the hero first, and they will be targeted by the AI alot I think) so I think it is only reasonable that the Hero get a lot of HP so they can stand up to all the attacks they recieve from enemy creatures and heroes.

It seems a little weird though: Hero building has always been a key factor in this game - and with H4 it seems to be even more fun/advanced, but... imagine Month 3 Week 2 Day 1: you have developed your hero to an astonishing level 45 being a Grandmaster of several skills and enter a fight against an enemy with 18 T-birds (at least) and 24 Cyclops, etc. Before the end of the 2nd round your hero is more dead than your great grandma - and gone is all your magic... which should be rather devastating if you are a magic town :-)
Will Stronghold rule in the long run?

They want to give incentive to actually have an army. Also, remember you can have up to 7 heroes w/in one army. The building of an army will be alot of fun, with the variety you have at your disposal.
