Game freeze
I´ve got this box with win7 x64 pro awhile. Played some vanilla h3 sod and that seems to work.
Now lately I´ve been going for wog . It seems to be fine. Except that when in battle during A.I. turn (i think) I get instant freezes of the whole thing , sound gets muted and have to resort to ctrl+alt+del.
Tried 98/Me comp. My current comp mode is 95. comp mode does´nt seems to matter on this one but anyway though I mention it.
Any ideas what might cause this ?
EDIT : tried 2 random maps so far. 9-10 different situations. it does´nt seems like a onemaperror. all different battles/heroes. Not noticed that happens while some special creature use abilyties , for its just a random thing that comes during battles

I think you should reinstall WoG latest version and play it before trying mods or whatever. Usually WoG/SOD hangs:
In multiplayer (don't even try it)
when a creature has "regain HP", first aid tent also sometimes
when teleporters on zero x/y columns
when AI has summon boat basic and thousand of spell points
when game goes beyond 12th month and provoke resources overload
If none of those, I can't see any reason, but a corrupted install.

First Aid Tent Hang. You need either to install WoG + Era or replace first aid tent def with some creature def. Professionals in this sphere could help.

mkay...
I think its a win7 issue or maybe just a x64 issue.
I say this because I fired up my x32 XP pro install on the VirtualBox . Shared the host hardrives. From within that I started WOG (the installation as before) and just for the hell of it resumed my last save and got into that battle where it always hung on win7.
Within Vbox i could play the whole battle.
Interesting that you mention the war machines .... I had suspiouses towards some old bug that went away way back...
The only other time I´ve seen this sort of error with hangs or + blackscreen is when on player get too many creature, say 7 enchanter and all their clones etc.

I've mentioned this before on other WoG/Windows 7 threads, but I'll mention it here in case you didn't check those threads.
I have several WoG and Era folders on my W7/32 laptop. Only one of them gives me problems (the New Objects 1.09 patch), and that might be some kind of installation problem, but - when I start up the laptop in "Safe" mode, that installation works fine also. There is no sound in Safe mode, but I turned off the music years ago and don't miss the sound effects much either (at this point), so that is a solution for me.
I also have a W7/64 laptop, identical to the one which ByteBandit couldn't run WoG on. I don't use that machine much, but I have played WoG on it - from a folder on a flash drive. (I think that works for the NO 1.09 installation on my W7/32 also, but it has been about a year since I tested.) That way I can have sound and high resolution, but End Turns take a little longer to save the Autosave file.
I understand there is a known W7 compatibility problem with some hard-drive writing routine which causes those kinds of problems, but I think it was fixed in the W7 Service Pack update.
I don't use any compatibility settings, and in fact I recommend not installing Heroes 3 at all under W7. Just copy the whole folder from an XP machine. Also, copy it under "My Documents" or "Public" so W7 won't apply all its up-tight security provisions to it (hiding your saved game files, refusing to let you edit maps in the Maps Editor without a lot of Windows gymnastics, etc.)
