I don't get the gating nerf, makes no sense.

Other than that: decent. May not be enough to shift the gameplay away from OP core creatures, though.

Seems to be the other way around on steam. It's not that it can't connect to the conflux, but the conflux rejects games not using the latest patch.

Because the Conflux is supposed to be down for 24 hours.

Game is perfectly playable offline though, only savegame is unavailable (whew?), ditto 4 dynasty stuff. In multi instead of my dynasty heroes I get some preset ones to choose from. I wish I had that option online too *sigh*

Yes, it seems that we'll have to wait for the conflux to get up again for 1.2.

How exactly does launching a patch make a game unavailable? That part just doesn't make sense to me.

One would think the patch is available, thus it updates the game when you launch it and away you go.

Something about server maintenance.

You sure don't play many online games

As Elvin said, server maintenance, also they have to apply the patch to the server client, make sure it works, etc...

Actually, I don't. For some reason the whole online gaming thing never appealed to me.

Long downtimes are common in online games that require one or several servers to run 24/7. Blizzard takes down all his servers for a few hours every 2 or 3 weeks and even longer when applying a patch (but that's mostly because they always f*ck up the patch installation )

Also patching the server client is long and tedious and requires the server to not be running

Now that I think about it, this leads me to a question.

I know it's been said, or at least implied, that the release version of this game will require a one time online activation. Has there been any news on this in regards to if we will need a connection constantly to run this game?

Aye it was answered in a Q&A. You have to be online to benefit from the in-game features from the Conflux (achievements, dynasty bonus and artifacts, unlocked rewards) and to play multiplayer (obvisouly ^^), but you can play in offline mode.

Okay, that's good to know. Thanks.

I don't mind that we need to be online to access certain features. I just don't want it to be like the Beta where if you lose connection for whatever reason, it shuts the game down. That is quite annoying and frankly if you payed for a product it would be unacceptable IMO.

According to the autopatcher, it's telling me the file is 612MB. Based on the speed it's downloading, it will take roughly an hour.

An hour for a patch for a beta? Are you kidding me?
I honestly dread when I have to download the full version of this game in September. I'll be lucky if it's done downloading in a day.

I have finished installed the patch and can play this new version. There's a meny now to the right and I can also see two more heroes in the place where you select which hero to be the starter one. All my saves from the earlier version is gone though

Orc campaign: Lulz. They really tried to cram in humor here. Did not work so well

(Also, you can have a conversation with [mr goblin] before you actually meet/free him in a nice little bugged way, if you take another path than expected)

I haven't played yet, but what I can say from a short opening is:

Yay, syncronizing savegames isn't taking 5 - 10 mins now!
And the main menu is looking normal now.
