Jon Van Caneghem.
I will not buy another Might and Magic product until it is one that is overseen (meaning in charge or at least major oversight) by Might and Magic mastermind Jon Van Caneghem.
My concern is that, while we see Heroes VI as a departure, I can only see it getting worse from here on out. Either it will stay the same, or get worse. Who wants that?
The series, since Ubisoft began overseeing development, simply lacks that flavor of Might and Magic that all prior games had. Heroes VI was a complete 180 from Heroes III, yet it felt infinitely more authentic and true to Might and Magic than Heroes V ever will, despite the latter being a glorified clone.
Yes, it could easily be said that I'm being ungrateful... but Ubisoft could've easily made it clear that they were going there own way and doing their own thing... but they're not. The point is, they're trying to appeal to the fans, they're under the impression that they can please us and give us what we want, and it just comes across as a tease.
I was inspired to start this topic after seeing the video interview with Jon Van Caneghem. Why? Because it didn't sound like he had been interested in completely dumping the franchise and ending it. At the time that Ubisoft attempted to hire him, he had stopped making games. But now, he's back, obviously having jumped head-first back into the game development scene... and my position is that, yes, he did reject their offer, but it was not at the right time and place. It seems like a very real possibility that, if asked, he would return and possibly make Heroes of Might and Magic VII be what Heroes of Might and Magic V was always meant to be.
Who knows.. maybe this is already in the cards? If anything could, something like this would restore faith in Ubisoft for fans, and I think Ubi knows this.

Can anyone name a single gOOd game Ubisoft published ? I couldn't find any, and I checked the entire list at Wikipedia. Not just good games, there were hardly any PC games I heard about.

Rayman and prince of Persia were pretty good if you ask me. Though what they did to warrior within was despicable, they literally sold its soul to make it look cooler, gory and sexy. Charm all but faded away.

Beyond Good & Evil was a great game. The Splinter Cell serie is great as well.
@E-Lysander : Guess you won't buy any Heroes games anymore then. JVC is working for EA on a new Command & Conquer spin-off. Tbh JVC is not exactly a guy I'd trust anymore. He has ditched every single big project he has been working on during the 8 last years : he ditched NWC before the H4 Xpacks were released, he ditched NCSoft before Lineage II was released and he ditched Trion (his own company) before Rift was released.

I found it to be average at best.
The story wasn't all that, for a (modern) FPS/H&S, and the characters very either 2-dimensional or flat out annoying.
But the game itself may have been great.

The story was somehow cliché, but the gameplay itself is what actually matters and that was fun.

The story it self was pale. The characters in it were so 2 dimensioal for the reason that there were so few of them and you did not interact with them at all.
The Only exception in my Eyes is Xana. I know not everyone liked her but IMHO she was the best NPC in the game.
But the game for it self was fun to play, had a good feeling and good mechanics so I would give it atleast above average.

@E-Lysander
I agree with you and have described m/l the same reasoning in another thread. Whether or not the original creator need be back at the helm, is ofc, like all esle...an opinion. However I think that we can at least provide some evidence about the "lack of vision" compared to the orginal creator's big-picture.
Yesterday, once again, I was plowing through a few manuals looking for some little instruction and saw this again;
Quote: (from Ubisoft)
Warning:
The manual that you are now reading does not describe 100 percent of the Heroes of Might and Magic 5: Tribes Of The East map editor’s functionality. This is mainly due to the fact that the editor is an internal tool of Nival Interactive and is, originally, designed for the works of the whole production cycle of the game Heroes of Might and Magic 5-Tribes Of The East.
When I read this the first time years back, it was after a bewildering and frustrating experience in my first attempt to use the editor. At the moment of reading this, the reason for that non-user-friendly mess, that I was "attempting" to learn, became very clear. "No commanding vision". The Editor is at minimum half-critical for the overall success of the game and a tool for the "in-house programmers" was dumped-in at the last moment?
Flash forward to the present day and then we see a few stragglers like myself trying to keep 5 alive behind Q's serious A.I. overhaul.
Now. I've heard that H6 will address this past serious under-sight with the Editor but now <imo> its seems the gameplay is heading somewhere esle? There are two halves of the commanding vison and they both have to be well conceived before we can hope to ever see the game we had expected.

Well, there are haters who will deny a specific company can release a single good game (I'm an EA-hater )

Assassin's Creed is Ubisoft and is fantastic as well. Think what you want about what Ubisoft has done to HOMM, but I don't think you can in good conscience say that Ubisoft has ever made any good titles.
