CUSTOM MAPS
Back at the time of Heroes 3 I created my first custom map. In all the subsequesnt Heroes I have created custom maps that I would play a few times a week, it usually takes 1-8 hours to complete a mission. I was wondering if anyone else has done this.
It is a small map, with my Hero in one corner and a random Hero in the other corner. The map has lots of pickups, money, gems and treasures to collect. The goal is to beat the other Hero. The other Hero is fully random.
In the middle of the map is an area guarded on 4 sides by creatures of random strength. Two corners of the map are also guarded by random creatures dividing half the map into your side and the other half the heroes side. You gain strength as fast as you can and have a choice of trying to raid the others Heroes half of the map or accessing the central area. The central area has lots of powerful pickups including the 4 tomes of magic. The 1st to access the central area usually can win due to the power of the pickups. The winning Hero is usally quite strong, 8-17 in each category. One tome of magic is most powerful.
I virtually always win but I am always intrigued by how random the maps are and how hard it may become to win. Also the other random Heroes intelligence and strategy to win amazes me.
I have never really played the game the way it is meant to be played much, the custom map seems better to me. I would be interested in hearing from anyone with a similar experience. It is exciting to me to find this forum and see that it is being updated currently by users. I think HOMM6 should include this custom map gameplay. I can make my current map for HOMM5 T of East available as a download if someone is interested.
Thanks

Welcome STEVERI371
I prefer creating the world behind the gameplay too. I enjoy creating a map as much as playing the game...hmmm, more.
In the past though, I've also used the easy method by making an RMG map and tweaking it. That method is a good way to "quickly" create a map your way (otherwise it's just the default "bull-rush")and yet still have some "unknowns". When making a map in this fashion; you do not have near the familarity of the terrain etc. like you do when making one entirely from scratch. However, I enjoy making my own custom maps far more and am currently working on several.
Anyway, to your idea about one-on-one, I've not made any map that would be of that type, but it's a good idea and I would think you find some players.
I have a very strong pull to create maps on an Epic scale and not everyone likes that. I know there are players here at HC that are far more interested in battle than adventuring, so your map should fit that purpose well.
Welcome again and have fun with your map-making.
