Heroes 6 a bit of a disappointment

I have been a really big fan of the Heroes games since Heroes 2.
Only Heroes 4 was a big disappointment to me and even if Heroes 6 definatly is not bad...its not really great.

Ofc i have only played the demo so i haven't played as much as the beta testers and i know the game isn't finished yet.
So i can only base this post from my little experiance from the demo.

I will make alot of comparisons with Heroes 5, since its is its closest predecessor and has alot in common with eachother. Just like Heroes 2 and 3 had with eachother.

Gameplay changes

The good:

Propper turns in combat instead of initiativ. I like the change back to like it was in old h3. It was abit frustrating in H5 when fast units could do 2 turns or more with morale before a slow unit got to do anything.

You can migrate

More artifacts then in H5(or so it seams)

Easier to costumize the hero the way you like, either might or magic or abit of both

Repution bonuses is also a nice feature.

The Bad:
Less types of resources. Im sorry i really tried to give it a chance.
But i do think the system with more different resources was better.
It made it more of an adventure to go out look for them, it made it less predictable of what you would be able to afford, depending on what map you played and what stacks are guarding.
You had to sometimes make decisions if it was worth to attack that mine and lose troops so you could (for example) afford to get Liches.
Just because fewer resources is fitting for a RTS doesn't mean its great for a game like Heroes.

The Core and Elite stacks
First off if the game would have had as many different resouces, this system would make more sense.
Since then you could put up strategis if (for example) you where to assault the gem mine to get sisters fast or go for the crystal mine to upgrade crossbowmen.
Now they all cost pretty much the same, so once you know what order to buy your units to be sucessfull you won't really do it any other way.
I also think that the core units feels abit odd at times, i mean Sucubusses, who are about equal in strength with a goblin? that isn't right man...
Most units do have similar HP and damage, which makes most units just feel the same.
I liked how some units in the older games had more varied strength and weaknesses, for example some units where very weak but you could produce many, some units where slow as hell but hard to kill while others where super fast.
I do however like the fact that core units are more useful now, its just that i think they are abit too good at times.
Some Elites don't really feel elite at all and when your creeping through monsters on the landscape, they aren't neccasrily much harder then the average core stack.

Less fun abilities and Less randomness
They seem to have gotten rid of most unique and fun special abilties.
For example i loved how goblins ran away scared if they got attacked, or unicorns being able to blind opponants at times, treeants rooting people, Demons casting meteor shower and pit fiends automaticlly always kill an extra dude each attack.
Alot of the fun stuff is gone and have been replaced with stuff that buffs or weakenss units stats etc.
I don't mind abilities like that but whats wrong with units with some fun abilities aswell?
Just take the hellfire thingy in Heroes 5. How fun wasn't it when you got lucky and got a hellfire proc for 70 in damage with 3 imps?!
What do we have in H6? hellfire that gives you a chance to deal aditional 6% fire damage...woopiedooo...Specially considering how little damage troops deal in H6.

I also think the faction specialabilties are less fun and each unique hero abillity is rather bland.
Not only that you don't seem to be able to start with random resource/artifact/gold bonus anymore.
Removing randomness is not a good call, yes it might be easier to balance but it also means stuff gets much more boring.
Games can be competetive and still have some randomness in it.
We also have to remember that most people play the game in Singleplayer or for fun in hotseat.

Overall less stuff
Yes okay its kinda unfair to compare it to Heroes 5 with all its expansions. Afterall H5 also lacked alot of stuff just when it came out.
But seriously not even a thiefguild?
Very few adventure buildings(from what i have seen so far), there is not even that much to do in your own town.
Stuff like that don't really add to the fantasy atmospher.
But we can always hope more stuff will be in the full game.

Graphics and sound, yes most 3d models on units and the landscape looks better then in Heroes 5.
But its NOT mindblowing concidering this game is 5 years newer.
The art design is also overall better then in H5, even though i think they made abit too many female casters.
H6 has rather bland spell effects, the townscreen are no way as impressive even compared to the 5 year older Heroes 5(i rememmber how damn impressed i was first time i played H5 and saw the Sylvan, Necro and Haven town in full 3d).
The Interface and the icons in the talent trees are also abit dull even if its no big deal.
The sounds are also very few(so far atleast) and some sounds are really odd and kinda bad or not even there at all.
I have to admit i really like the Haven town music and some of the remixes of old heroes music.
But some other towns music where very forgettable. Still no town music that can beat the awsome necromancer score in H3.

I hope i don't have sounded too negative. H6 has some good features, less cartoony graphics then H5 and i will definatly play it.
My point is that it don't seem like it introduced so much new stuff and some of the new things introduced wasn't very good for the game...atleast in my eyes.H2 made hugh leap from H1, H3 made hugh improvments over H2 and H5 improved things even further.
I just hoped for something more then this.

Sorry, but we already have a number of Heroes 6 discussion threads, so I'm closing this as a duplicate topic. Feel free to copy/paste your poste to one of the other threads in this forum on that subject.
