I am searching far and wide for good maps and most of the ones I find are crappy

yeah that's a good one where you can buy artis & also even test hero from different faction if you like, but there were hero specialties still I think (they differ in usefulness for sure), and sylvan & dwarves couldn't buy lvl 4-5 dark spells ==> more chance of orc shatter light vs enemy light in those situations...for some reason I have a TOH Duel 2_1 as well, which is level 19 with 2 witch-huts and no tavern.

Yeah TOH Duel 2_1 is also good but for more players and less restrictive....
