[Strategy] How to counter Haven
They piss me off. I'm currently playing the Stonghold campaign and I was being sieged by a level 7 cleric with 16 Imperial Griffins and a stack of Vestrals. Really no big deal on any given day, with my 50 Maulers and 20 Dreamwalkers safely tucked away in my town with a level 4 Shaman with defensive abilities for just such a situation. I even had the Retribution-esque spell that damages the attacker for that unlimited retaliation. I thought it was going to be smooth sailing, but his Vestrals rezzed 3 Griffins per turn, and his Heal spell another 7.
I mean, it's a siege defense. I'm supposed to be the one who holes himself up behind the walls and picks off at his troops with my towers and here I am getting owned by a single stack of very overpowered flyers to begin with, and an endless string of Heals, which are dirt cheap and ressurect creatures for no particular reason.
Note that I wasn't able to DL the patch yet for some odd reason.

Vestals (minus the r) can only heal a stack twice, then they're out of juice. The Clerics' heal spell has a 3 turn cooldown. It's just a matter of working around it, really. Imperial Griffins have nothing to them but straight melee output, due to a bug with their diving ability dealing no damage.

I know man. Those units are overpowered as hell, I mean just the heal wasn't enough? They had to add a stun that can be reapplied as well? shiiiit.
Not sure what the best way to deal with them is, I usually tickle them a little with an archer or hero attack and then focus the enemy's high priority targets. They often end up healing themselves, they're still a pain.

Why not concentrating on the vestals first? Goblins and centaurs(especially coupled with pressed attack) can tip the balance for you.

Stun? You mean the Vestal's Pacify ability? That only works as long as the Vestals are more powerful than the enemy stack. If the enemy stack is stronger, pacification will fail. So, just make sure to give those women a beating properly first, so their stack strength drops.

He has a way of exactly knwoing when to heal with what, though, and when his Vestals can no longer Heal, he only needs 1 every three turns as he manages to thin out my ranks really quite quickly. Griffins diving does do a buttload of damage on my copy, though the Dreamwalker's Sky and Earth only does 20 damage period instead of 20 damage per unit. Odd spread of bugs, then.

Yeah, deffonatly best tactic is to go after the ressers first to begin with, lesser numbers they are, lesser they ress obviously. Besides playing the first campaign with the Griffin guy, you can already get taste of opponents just ressurecting troops nonstop.

The thing about Vestals is that they die easy. I was sieging a Haven town with Haven units... when they're stupid enough to seperate the Vestals from the Praetorians I hammer them all out. Praetorians are hardcore tanks though they have rather low damage... so go for them last and work your way around them.
