Patch day! Some cool stuff this time!
My highlights!
A new CTF map has been added, Tartarus.
A new Arena map has been added, Hinterlands.
Always exciting with new maps! Pretty sure Tarturus is an old, remade map as well, which should be interesting... I'll get back on this though.
Users may now configure up to four pre-established loadouts (or profiles) per class. These can be used to more quickly switch between favored configurations for each class. Loadout slots are purchasable using XP or Gold.
Users may now QUICK SWITCH between classes and loadouts while in a match using the “NUMPAD ENTER” key (default). This is an alternate way to change classes/loadouts versus using the Class Select menu ("I" Screen) that does not require you to open the game menu and is much faster.
Finally! God, this has taken a long time! Been waiting for both of these since load outs were implemented (kind of hoping for a full menu rework, but improvements are due and, hopefully, acceptable).
IMPORTANT USABILITY NOTE: With this release, you always close the console window using the ESCAPE key. You can no longer close the console window using the same key that launches the console (default “tilde”). This is necessary to solve issues when people rebind that key, as well as on some countries’ keyboard layouts.
So we can type "ö" now, and won't have to shift+alt all the time? Convenient.
Shrike price reduced on public servers to 4000.
Beowulf price reduced on public servers to 2500.
Gravcycle price reduced on public servers to 500.
I know a lot of people complain about the vehicles, but I like them and they should be used more, especially the grav cycle (that's pretty much free) and I'd very much like to see more of the vehicles we have as well as more vehicles, but I think the main reason people don't use the grav cycle in particular is because it takes so long to get it. Remember the quick vehicle station on X-Fire? Why not have one or two on every map?
New Accolades have been added:
Investor: Earned every 2 minutes that a Base Radar or Generator that you upgraded remains online.
Turret Support: Earned if a Base Turret you upgraded gets a kill.
Hot Air: Earned for getting a mid-air kill with the Plasma Gun. (Replaces Air-Mail).
Investor and Turret Support are rather due, even if I don't care much for accolades. At least I will get a hint on how many kills a turret gets and it may get much more rewarding playing a tech that actually tries to do something. Hot air? Yeah... why even have an accolade? It's easier to MA with the PG than with autos, and they don't get one?
An exit speed cap of 200kph has been added to the Shrike.
Reduced the amount of knockback the flag receives from explosions in air (reducing punting).
Yeah... not so sure about these two. Sure, I can see why they added them, especially with the now cheaper shrikes, but a shrike is still quite the investment, unless you get the perks for it, in which case you'll loose valueable capping perks and shrikes are so easy to spot anyways.
As for punting I'd rather say the opposite: the flag needs more knockback, especially when it's traveling at slow speeds. Many a time have I put a disc on it when it more or less still and pretty much nothing happens. I feel like the only time the knock back works is when you punt quickly (right after you drop it), which is also the time it takes the least skill. Perhaps they should reconsider and rework this, to better reward well aimed shot, rather than moves practised to automation.

You watched some of the 2500$ tournament that's been running? Those guys punt the flag over like half the Crossfire map.
Kinda sad that there's no weapon balance included.
Quote:
An exit speed cap of 200kph has been added to the Shrike.
I guess this means Team Deadstop's SUPER-GRAB-COMBINATION will be a little less epic.
They run an Infiltrator that grabs the flag and throws it into the midfield, followed by their capper jumping out of a shrike and taking the flagpass in midair and going off at ULTRASANIC SPEED, while the Infiltrator jumps into his ally's abandoned Shrike and escorts the capper home.
Seriously their team is ****ing insane. They're beyond any other team competitively.

Hence my specifications. Try shooting the flag while not doing a regular, "quick punt"! It'll hardly be affected.

Ah ok, not sure if I care that much about that ^^
I think Tartarus is a pretty fun map btw. The base need some work as it's way too easy to destroy the generator... I mean you don't even have to enter the base, you can fire into the genroom from outside.
Also, the flagbase needs shields like Sunstar, but then again EVERY map needs shields like Sunstar.
EDIT:
Btw, I've pretty much stopped playing INF. It's fun but there's a certain skill ceiling that I think I've hit (a personal skill ceiling that is, I don't think I've totally mastered this class at all)... I mainly play SLD and PTH now.
Also I play TCN with Thumper + Shotty on CnH. SO DAMN FUN. The sawed-off shotgun is my favourite weapon in the game now. It's just ridiculously powerful.

Only managed to play Tartarus once, and it was on patch day, so I'd hardly call that a match. I kind of liked the gener area at first glance, though it seems a bit linear and small, encouraging juggerplay as usual, but I'll still have to wait and see... remind me of how much I miss the Bella Omega gener rooms.
And the shotgun is that fun? It's one of the like... seven things I don't have yet, but with the new daily sales I guess I'll be getting it rather soon.
And yeah, I've been dumping a few classes as well, now that I feel like I've grown quite adept with all but sentinel and I've ended up playing mostly pathfinder, doombringer, raider and technician, and then adding infiltrator and juggernaut when needed. I guess brute is mostly relevant for braking stand offs when there are jamming involved, but that's rather rare and often difficult to bring down on the pubs anyways (since you can hardly expect to sync an attack). Then I often end up using soldier and brute on CnH, though it's really fun controlling space with the raider. The NJ5-B is just so much fun! Almost prefer it to the Arx now, as the Arx still derps half of the direct hits.
Thumper tech is a lot of fun as well, for some reason... it just ends up being a weaker soldier for me, most of the time, yet I find it more appealing. Odd, really.

CnH Loadout
Primary: Thumper
Secondary: Sawed-Off Shotgun
Belt Item: TCNG
Perks: Safety Third + Quick Draw
Outskirts CnH... rush to B point, place your turrets on the edge of the roof on each side of the base turret, jet over to the roof with the radar and stand guard from there.
The turrets are perfectly covered and control the airspace perfectly, and can still fire downwards on people who try to take the point, and you can just spam grenades and thumper fire on everyone down there anyways.
If they jet upwards you shotgun the mofo if your turrets haven't already taken them out. Sawed-Off Shotgun is more powerful than the auto-shotty, it can kill a heavy in 4 hits, and lights are just reduced to paste.
It's my favourite place to guard so far... well.. until the inevitable orbital hellfire rain starts at least and the whole map just becomes armageddon until the game ends.

WELL LOOKIE HERE!
Interesting. This would let the TCN mount quite an effective anti-capper defence.
EDIT:
*plays TDM for some reason*
*only rank 8 people around*
*Go Thumper/Shotgun tech*
*Get flag, jetpack on top of large pillars*
*place light turrets on top of pillars*
*Rank 8 newbies keep jetting up and get aimbot-turreted to death*

Playing TDM is like joining buddies that are still in babby league. Just do whatever and you can just pile up the score no problem. The only issue I have with TDM is that the games end up being so short if you dominate too much. First to a hundred points, so if you just get 30-40 kills and the flag you've pretty much won the game all on your own. In CTF babby league I just set up ridiculous challenges for myself, like using secondary weapons only and just allowing one of the enemies to cap.

I usually try to play on the /vg/ server nowadays cuz they have good rules and nice, team-focused people.
I pretty much main Soldier base defence now, ranger loadout with Utility, Safety Third and Quick Draw.
If my ping wasn't 120 I bet I'd hit a bit more with the Assault Rifle... but it works pretty well regardless.
Proxies are totally underrated, if I see an incoming capper I just spam the flagstand and it's suddenly filled with mines that the capper cannot destroy.
They're also great for air-mails, very satisfying.

Nice to hear that they're doing well. If they adress the few core balance issues, market it correctly and add some more (read any) replay and casting tools it'll certainly have a shot at becoming a pro-gaming game.

Yeah, the game has its faults but overall they're doing pretty well.
Anyway, nice games we had yesterday. Think I'm finding a new role for myself with the Super Heavy TCN, it complements the HoF pretty well.
I'm not carrying a repair tool and fixing the DMB's stuff though, takes way too much time and he can just go to an INV station and refill on FFs while I hold the stand.
With the greater mobility of the TCN I can really fly up and meet incoming cappers in mid-air too, shotgun blast followed by the cold super-heavy shoulder. The splat is so satisfying.
I really have respect for DMB HoFs, with all the RDRs and JUGs and ****whatnot constantly spamming where you're supposed to be standing it's just... wow it's frustrating.

Yeah, playing HoF is such a pain in the everything. Being the central flag defender while very rarely getting any back up at all... yeah, thank you PUBs. Felt so relieving having just you as back up, a single medium. What's really annoying is the lack of people going after juggers. Flag D is almost impossible if there are three juggers spamming on and around the flag stand.
It's usually where I'm the most useful for my team though, since even decent HoFs are rare and teams usually get enough O anyways... that or chasing if there's too much O on your flag.

Guess this means the Sad Brute Club is officially closed?
And the all-sad-brute server match was just coming up ^^ (2nd of June, only Brute allowed!)
The Plasma Cannon is a secondary weapon? Uh... why? Is there any reason to use the Heavy Fusor at all with this thing?

I'm on the reddit PUGs. Just get on mumble, get on a team and join the party!

EU usually gets populated around 20.00, so just pop in around that time and you're in the cool, or get in there later and just wait for new teams (usually ~45 mins before repicking).
