I started playing Multi
A while back, I was invited to a short(ish) session of hotseat Multi with some friends of my bro, and H3 blew my mind. It is incredible how much more exciting a game can be, when the opponents are human- Never before had I thought that neglecting to pick up a pile of (otherwise enticing) resources can and will sometimes be considered one of the ultimate offensive moves! We played a 130% M 2x2, no under, true random, stock template, no rules map, with each of the noobs having a veteran teammate, and it was... intense. I felt as if everything was magnified somehow, becoming infinitely more important. (Up till now, for example, I didn't think final battles fought with level 3 heroes are even possible.) And just when I wanted to try myself online too... My laptop's net connection died, and I couldn't reanimate it, no matter what I tried. Murphy's laws at work, I guess...
Since then, I do not seem to enjoy SP as much as before, so whenever my connection is fixed, I'll take the online step. Besides ToH and WCL, where should I look for honourable opponents?

Hai dere !
Well Heroes should be played only Single player most of the time. I have WAY more fun with the computer than playing online and waiting, or even people leaving the game after one hour.
But if you really need to play online (for a real challenge), there are alot of people on gameranger from various skill.
They play Heroes 3 complete, which means you'll need heroes on english version.

Nope. Its like you are saying "jacking off is better than sex with real girl".
Heroes should be played online multiplayer. And singleplay should be only for sharpening your skills for the MP games.
If you dont like waiting others turn - put time limit. Or find something to keep you entertained - watch movie, clean your house. There are plenty of things you can do, while waiting.
About players leaving after 1 hour of game - thats why you should find relyable opponends and play mostly with them. Or ask if they have WCL profile and check how reliable they are. Respectivly - you may register in WCL yourself, so you can proove to other people you are reliable.

I know , every time I quote you I sound stupid. What can I do...
@Ohfor: single is different. One can improve skills then move to MP, others can simply enjoy a good story, mapmaker's skill, various battles. Only stubborn people will claim that single<MP or vice versa. It is just different.

Or some people just never will accept different tastes....Multiplayer is more skillfull...but much more time consuming...and not everybody has NO real life

...Or maybe people should play whatever they enjoy? Nobody "should" play either alone or multiplayer if they don't want to.

Ofc...
But imo the most enjoyable way to play Heroes is : read description & strategy guides, play single player, try different build.
Multiplayer : only simul turns (Heroes 5) or small map for me. Else i am bored very quickly.

OMG, so embarrassed... started my first online game, and disconnected a couple minutes in. In three years, this was the only time that my connection acted this way... My opponents must think I'm a cheater or something...

Playing against humans will teach you to be a ruthless player. You'll be able to beat the AI much easier too, because you'll learn the most efficient strategies. This only applies to single scenarios, though, because in campaign computer opponent gets artificial advantages.
In some ways single player is richer, because you can fool around with inefficient units, spells, skills and still win. It's nicer for experimentation (just load game) and the End Turn button feels so nice.
Single player: "Just one more turn ! Promise !"
Multiplayer: "Can I have my turn already ? / No, no, a few more seconds ! This is important !".
Oversimplification for sure, but close enough.
If you play worse than me, you have no skill. If you play better than me, you have no life ! ;-)

I quite agree about that. Personally for turn-based game (civ 5, heroes 6) I enjoy alot more playing against the AI than humans : it's way faster (obviously..), no stressful, you can experiment, computer doesn't leave...
If I want to play with people, I play RTS / MOBA / FPS. Or simul-turn. That's just my personnal tastes tho, enjoy whatever you are comfortable with.

Turn-based games that work very well in multiplayer are called board games. When several people gather around a table, just walking away and stopping playing makes you a huge jerk and no one will want to play with you again. Online - it's not exactly the norm, but it's fairly common. With no eye contact, it's harder to treat people on the other side as humans.
