Campaign characters (vanilla H4 only)
Gauldoth was the best campaign char for me with his talk of life and death and nature and the universe and victory through preservation and saving the day. I still love him, he's iconic like Sandro.
Emilia N was like the cinderella type with Solmyr as the fairy but still good on one hand and a young girl beoming a ruler on the other.
Lysander wasn't your typical sweet prince and he's a Gryponheart so he's okay in my book.
Elwin and Shaera wasn't the typical hollywood romance story either and I remember playing it night and day to finish the story not for the scenarios themselves. But as far as characters go, none was really interesting.
Waerjak was fine but Tarnum is in the spotlight for me. A warrior is not just a killer, he's a protector. You must have respect for life and an even greater respect for your abilty to take it. Otherwise, you're just a murderer. Nuff said.
And Tawni was my kind of girl, even if I'm not a big fan of pirates she would've been loads better than say Will Turner in Pirates of the Carribean for me
BTW now I wanna play the Gauldoth and Tawni campaigns, yay!
Props to 3DO for their last breath of awesomeness with these characters.
GS characters were fine but nothing compared. Hexis was the same as peter jackson's Sauron unfortunately, completely straightforward.
The least I say about WW the beter. von Tarkin and Spazz were the only ok ones for me.
What are your favourites, dislikes, comments?

Gauldoth is my favorite H4 character, as well. And I love his journey, too. It has surprising philosophical depth, and it's first time for me, that ever seen an undead stand as neutral in the campaign story line.
And Lysander IMO is a typically classic heroes like Rambo, Super Man.
Emilia...huh....Kind of girl I like.
Waerjak, at the first, actually, I not really like this barbarian, but at last I suddenly find this is an honorable barbarian I ever seen.
Elwin and Shaera...Sweet Lovers but no more other feeling.
Tawni...I like the character but a little shame about the Portrait, can do better
For the GS, I love the Alita, I love the portrait and prepare to make a campaign for her.
WW...eh...I haven't start yet...
BTW: That time I finished the original campaign of the game, I create 6 characters in the IWD2 immediately with these lovely faces, to make a wonderful journey, and imagine the conversation between them, especially the conflict between the Tawni and Elwin.

Niiice...I want Tawni x Elvin badly. And Lysander with Shaera
And the G-man with Emilia, that would start a war
don't bother playing WW unless you really like H4.

I never finished the Necro campaign (mainly because I HATE the faction), but Tawni Balfour, Solymr, Proetho, Emilia Nighthaven and Elwin are among my favorite fictional characters of all time.
H4's campaigns were excellently written. Hats off to the developers for that.

I've done all the campaigns twice. First time on the default normal setting and the next time on all Champion. The campaigns were actually a lot harder on the default setting, because the size of neutrals slows down the computer growth on champion, except starting off on a few of them was really hard.
It was fun trying out all kinds of different classes in depth.
I imagine certain campaign heroes as being certain classes.
The original camps, all had good stories.
Gauldoth was pretty cool and was interesting making an in depth demonologist. But it did get a bit boring after a while.
The nighthaven campaign was quite fun mostly because I think it had the most original and different type of ideas.
Lysander campaign I liked because there were 3 heroes that passed on to the next scenarios at first (unlike other camps. where just one usually passes on), then later 4 and 5 passed on I think.
The Elwin one at first I thought was gay but it turned out to be a good story and I like how he ended up becoming the new King.
The Tawni one I found very long and a lot of walking, but it was cool in that it was the first camp. involving much sea travelling and pirate stuff.
Waerjak was good one too and I liked how another hero started to pass on with him starting I think from the second scenario.
The gathering storm ones were all the same, collecting artifacts. But the end was neat how they all combined together. Bohb's campaign I had the most fun with because it was the first one I played and the idea was new.
WW ones were probably the hardest campaigns, but they were ok and each was about equally as fun.

What could have gone wrong with using Crag Hack, Sandro, Yog, new character and Gem in Winds of War instead of those no-names?

IMO, nothing will go wrong, but the story need change a bit to follow the story of the previous.
