Favourite film directors
Tim Burton, Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese would be the big three for me. I like Coppola, Akira Kurosawa and Tarantino also. But keep in mind there must be many great films that I haven't seen yet at my age.
Who would be your favourites?

Jackson did a good job with Lord of the Rings, he could've screwed up amd make the fans want him dead.
Nolan is overrated for me. The Dark Knight is his only great effort in my eyes but even that was overhyped.
What about Kubrick? I don't know how anyone could dislike him, sure that doesn't mean everyone has to praise him.
Wilder was good too.

Old: Kurasawa, Stanley Kramer, Bergman, Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Serio Leone,....
Modern: Peter Jackson, del Toro, Clint Eastwood, Hayao Miyazaki, Ridley Scott, ... the list goes on.
Tarantino's really better known for his screenwriting than directorship, although his directorship gets the credits.

Kubrick has a special place in my heart courtesy of the first 5-10 minutes of Full Metal Jacket. It is unofficially required viewing for anyone who is about to go to marine boot camp. By and large though, I'm not thrilled with his pacing and storytelling.
Nolan isn't just known for Batman. Before that he had done, among other things Memento and Insomnia. Both of those are excellent films.
Good call with Clint Corribus. Can't believe I'd forgotten about him. Nearly everything he's done since Unforgiven I've absolutely loved.
Edit: Kurasawa can suck it. I've another favorite asian director. You might've heard of him. Goes by the name of Yimou.

Well I am not a fan of Nolan's style like you are not of Stanley
Not saying Nolan is bad, I can hardly wait for the newest Batman film.
Meh I only like Toshiro Mifune films from Asian cinema and those were directed by Akira.
Letters from Iwo Jima by Clint was also good.
OT: Our replacement english teacher asked my name today and I answered imitating Michael J Fox: "Eastwood. Clint. Eastwood."

Gran Torino by itself is enough to add him to my list. Movie was fantastic and the fact it didn't get any Oscar attention (not a single nomination) is just a travesty. Then again, I've always known the Oscars are a bunch of horse crap, so it's no big surprise.

Wes Anderson? I had to look him up to see what movies he's directed, and I can honestly say I haven't liked a single one of them.
As for the Coen Brothers, in my estimation they have an annoying tendency to make movies that end well before they should have. No Country For Old Men was great, but then the credits started rolling and I was like, "huh? where's the rest of the movie?" A Serious Man was A Serious Mess, perhaps one of the worst movies I've ever seen, Fargo was ok but plodding, and True Grit was decent but inferior to the original.
I really don't see what people like about them.
But hey, opinions are like arseholes, and such.
EDIT: It's a shame really. Bort shows up for the first time in a decade and I have to disagree with every word he wrote.

Spielberg seems to be missing here. What's the matter, too commercial? Missing artistic ambition?

Whatev's - The Big Lebowski (Coen) and the Royal Tenenbaums (Anderson) are the best movies of the last 20 years. But that's just like, my opinion, man.

Overrated. I find a lot of his movies to be overwrought and think his editing skills are poor. He has good vision for a scene, and is great at creating atmosphere, but his movies (particularly more recent ones) I think suffer from pacing issues and often draw on for way too long. That's not to say I haven't loved some of his early work (Indiana Jones, Jaws, etc., are classics, but I haven't liked any of his movies post 2000).

Spielberg is a workaholic that has been involved in tons of movies for a very long time. If you look up his list between either production or directing, it is one hell of a big list. While he easily has a good number that I think are awesome, it's offset by about just as many that didn't really do anything for me, so overall I can't personally call him a favorite. When I see Spielberg's name in a trailer it doesn't really tell me anything.
