I lost 8 hours of sleep playing this game!
Yeah, this is interesting game.. King of Bounty + Age of Wonders + Master of Mana
One question: does Astral screen only show up in Campaign mode? If yes, how can I contact other players (and conduct diplomacy) in Scenario mode?
(Ok, those are two questions )

Is Genesis the kind of game you can pick up and play for 1 hour at a time, or do you really need to invest several hours at once?
By the way, here is a google translate from norwegian of a review:

You can play it one turn a day if you want. It's "just one more turn" type though, genuine old school, so if you intend to start playing, it's a good idea to have at least 2-3 hours of free time because you will probably spend no less than that anyway. :

Masters of the Broken World is getting released in less than a month (if everything goes as planned) and can be pre-ordered from GOG for 20$. That's a huge bargain for such a game - even if it's just a shiny reskin of Genesis, it's real value would still be at least thrice higher.

The game is now available for pre-order on STEAM. The release date is April 19. If you pre-order you immediately get the Genesis game.

So it turns out that the second Eador is largely a re-skin of the first one, with the core gameplay - world exploration mechanics, battles, campaign - being unchanged. I'm somewhat disappointed because... well, there should have been some major addition to Genesis to make MotBW a proper sequel but in the end - it's not a sequel and I don't think it was advertised as such.
That aside, the game is still hell of a good product (because Genesis is hell of a good product). It looks really well, the animations are nicely done (although rather slow during battle), the interface is one idea more user-friendly than in Genesis. For those who haven't played the "first" Eador and like TBS, the game is a must. For the rest - it will be a good purchase only if you want to play Genesis with new looks.

Thanks for the info Zenofex, I read a bit more from snowbird forums & seems perhaps the UI is worse (see post by Peter Ebbesen here) & there's some bugs so I'll wait till I'm less busy before buying.
But the idea of just re-releasing a game with the main idea just being better graphics? My thoughts are very much negative at this time if the re-release introduces new bugs/UI problems compared with original.

I find the UI of the adventure map better overall (you gotta learn when to click left and when right mouse button though) and that of the town - worse.
I haven't found any bugs so far, except some error ("access violation at address" something) that prevented the campaign from starting. From what I read, lots of people who bought the game from GOG have this issue but there's a workaround that does the job for most people:
Quote: you need to go to the control panel, click on system, then go on the Advanced tab. There click the performance definitions one. A new window should pop up.
Then, go to the last tab, click: "Activate DEP to all programs except those specified by me" then press the add button. Afterwards go to your Eador: Masters of the broken World folder, then add "eador_mbw.exe". Click apply, and you should be done.

I played through the tutorial first. I just finished a custom game on a 4 player map. My main heroe was a wizard. I never casted a summoning spell or did necromancy the entire game. My early spell dependance was on magic arrow. I got the fireball and stone rain spells as soon as I could and that helped tremendously in leveling. My third level spells were Word of Ice and the acid spell. 4th, Resurrection (learned from a scroll), Time Stop, and Dragon Form.
Final troops on my wizard were a paladin, 2 knights, a monk, a pegasis, a guardian, 4 swordsman, and a crossbowman. The crossboman range is too short and was seldom very active in combat. Although in fairness the swordmen become more of a wall around the wizard though few creatures made it far enough to need a wall in the late game.
My first conquest was done without a paladin as I had not been able to build the dwelling yet. In his place was another knight.
As I was invading the last wizard's territory he invaded mine. But my ranger handed his heroe his butt. Heh. I had kept my ranger (level 20 something) and my warrior (level 30 but with no troops) back to guard my home castle and continue exploring the home turf provinces. The commander heroe (last one I had hired) followed my main hero to the first opponent's territory and stayed there exploring and conquering adventure sites.
Bleh, an inquisitor force kept hounding me all game. Appearing in random provinces and conquering them. They were peeved because I would not let them torture my people.
My title wound up to be Spirit Vishnar the Pure as I always made the "good" decisions and did not cast bad karma spells.
Perhaps when I play again I'll play as more an an evil necromancer and explore the dark side.

So, I've been playing Genesis for... well forever. And there is one thing I wasn't able to do: ally myself with another Master. Anyone managed to do it?

I think you can ally with someone only during the conquest of a particular shard if there are more than 2 masters fighting for it and only as long as the other opponents remain on the shard, otherwise 2 masters always fight. The ultimate goal is to defeat everyone so I don't think you can form alliances on the "strategic" map.

That's what I meant. Allying on a shard against a 3rd opponent. Didn't manage to do it so far.

I think I did it a few times but in Masters of the Broken World, not Genesis. The latter is generally tougher all around with anything working your favour being harder to achieve (probably including alliances), maybe that's it. I guess you also need to have a master with similar good/evil allegiance as yourself on the shard to have any noticeable chances for success.
