Duel of Champions... sounds like some online competitive game rather than an RPG, and since all games under the brand start with Might & Magic nowadays that's entirely possible.
Maybe a HoMM game stripped of the town-managment and adventure aspects, and focused entirely on the dueling parts.
Would be cool.

More info about Might & Magic - Duel of Champions
Might & Magic Duel of Champions is the free online card game set in the fantastic Might & Magic universe. Choose a hero and build his army with Unit, Spell and Fortune cards to defeat your opponents in epic card battles. Experience the time-tested factions of the Might & Magic universe in a completely new format. Discover a wealth of beautifully illustrated game cards, featuring all the well-known characters, spells and heroes from the Might & Magic series of games.
BECOME A GAME MASTER
Objective of the game:
Bring your opponent hero’s life to zero before your hero is defeated. You can use a variety of means to do this: deploy units, cast spells and take advantage of fortunes and events. Get to know your cards and build your army: There are 5 different card types (unit, event, hero, spell and fortune). Each card holds special powers and opportunities that help you win the game.
Pick your hero:
The hero you choose will determine what spells you can use and which faction your army hails from. Your hero also determines your starting level and life. Each hero can also access a specific number of schools of magic.
Pick your events:
Each player brings five event cards to the match. Two are chosen and placed on the battleground. You will need to choose your events carefully as they can help your opponent too.
Build your army for battle:
Every army consists of at least 1 hero card and 5 event cards and can grow from 50 to 200 cards when you add your mix of units, spells and fortunes in. There are 16 positions on the battlefield for your units to be deployed to.

Ubisoft reminds me of 3DO : they make spin-off like there is no tomorrow. However, 3DO *At Least* made great Heroes of Might & Magic games.
Good old times

As a bg fan of Board and especialy Card games I know I will play this game..
But.. Well it is not the first MaM card game. We had Arcomage and H-IV TcG and other mini games.
Cardgames do have one positive part on them. They usualy bring images of the world and a deeper insight BUT... The fact that thsi game only focuses on 4 factions sofar (Necro, Heaven, Inferno and Sronghold) limits it a lot. Espetialy because these factions are getting overused. Especialy the Necro Heaven Inferno trio
But on the other hand. They DO MAKE BETTER spinoffs then their falgships. On has sunk deep into the abbyes and the second one is taking up water really fast...And they are filling the holes fast enought

When they say 'characters', do they really mean 'creatures'?
In any case I can't wait to discover them

Aside from the whole concept you mean?
Hmm, there's something strangely Rob Liefeldesque about generic demon number 3 from the left.

Did any of you actually tried the game.. or ar you just generic complainers that hate anything new in the brand?
Just to say so, these forums are dedicated to a spinoff of the original brand aswell.

Gave the game a try.
It is a solid card game. Especially for a free one.
Style and factions seem to follow H6 ones, with few exceptions.

References to see elves are in heroes VI aswell. In one hero's bio and in the artifact "Sextant of the see elves" So you just get to see how they are depicted, and how elves in the new style are depicted
Well the game works realy like a normal card game, You get a basic set and for points you get from the game byu Boosters and other basic sets.. realy like that idea
It has several flaws.. for example I think that the direct damage spells are to strong
They A: do to much damage, B: are to cheep C: Have a to low regirement to play
To fix this I would introduce 2 of these 3 options
1: Reduce the damage of all direct damage spells by 1
2: Increase the cost of all direct damage spells by 1-2 points
3: Incerase the magic power needed for all the direct damage spells by 1
