Hero creature Specialty
Can someone explain to me how this specialty works? It says that creature gains + attack and armor for every level attained after a specific one but checking the statistics of the unit it doesn't have the ones it should.

Basically hero gives +5% bonus to basic attack/defense value, divided by the tier of creature. Once hero level is greater than creature tier, it will be minimally 1.
Also, this ability is practically useless. For Example, Thant gives +10 attack / defense to all vampire levels for every 80 (yes, 80) levels he got. Or +1 for 8 levels, if you prefer.

The best part about creature specialist is +1 speed that specific creature gets (though it still falls short compared to some other specialties). Att/def bonuses are extremely mediocre, especially for level 3 and 4 creatures. level 1s can get decent boosts but still nothing to write home about.
But yes, the wording on them could have been more clear.

I don't think this speciality is "useless", at least when it comes down to level 1 units.
Level 21 Galthran for example doubles (!!) the attack AND the defense skill of the skeletons. They will have attack 10 and defense 8 then.
This means, they deal 25% more damage, and they recieve 10% less damage.
Additonal with the +1 battle speed bonus and the +1 map speed they gain, I find this quite remarkable...

Some Creature Specialists are useful because they have good starting skills, especially if they have 2 out of these 4: Offense, Armourer, Tactics, Logistics.
iE Alkin, Dace, Shakti, Tyraxor
Some are useful because they bring their creatures with them...
iE Galthran with up to 90 skellies (I dont miss the 4-5 zombies of other heroes ^^) Shakti, Ivor, Bron...
Some are useful because their creature makes good use of the speedbonus.
iE Alkin, Galthran
(Some are very useful because they fulfill more than 1 of these 3 requirements... )
---
What I always disliked in Creature specialists:
Apart from Galthran (who of course never loses his Skellies), I tend to lose all my low level units at some point, either leaving them in Castle or getting them killed by monsters/towers/spells (AI loves to kill them). So the low level creature special ist kinda useless to me.
The high level creature special on the other hand is useless because of the game mechanics, and because the bigger monsters are usually fast enough (dont need speedbonus), hit hard enough (don't need the small attack bonus) and have high hitpoints (don't need the defense bonus).
---
So I play them only because I like their skills (like Alkin) or their starting army (like shakti)...
What unfortunatly doens't work:
Buffing units that are not really strong otherwise...
I tried the lizard specialist to see if lizards can get buffed to a semi-useful unit with archery skill + artifacts, but even a huge stack of 500 lizards gathered from dwellings and joiners didnt really impress me...
Same with the gog guy. Or the serpent fly guy. I even edited the dwarf guy and gave him offense/armorer as starting skills, didn't help very much...
Those units will not become killers just because of the special...

Ah I see. So basically the specialty on high level creatures is utterly useless? The speed bonus seems nice though!
I was thinking of getting a good game with Inferno but I never concluded to a good hero. I though of getting the one who uses gog as specialty since he also starts with Archery. What other hero would you recommend for inferno?

Archery is wasted on inferno, you only got one shooter and this shooter is pretty bad.
Good Heroes:
Marius - adv armorer, demon special (if you want to demonfarm)
Pyre - Logistics, Artillery + special.

And why do you need to stick with an inferno hero as main at all?
Just pick one who helps you out at the beginning (depends on map difficulty), and try to find a barbarian, overlord or beastmaster in tavern. Having a big stack of demons leading by Crag Hack is somehow threatening I think...

Are Demon Heroes that much worse than overlords?
I usually get very nice skills on them...
And of course, if a decent orc/lizard turns up, I would take him anyday...

The idea comes from that Barbarians, Beastmasters and Overlords not only have insanely powerful creatures (HUGE attack and defence) but they also very easily get the skills that will further amplify these strengths (Offence, Armorer, Tactics, Air Magic, Earth Magic, Logistics, Pathfinding, etc)
It is not really how I personally would like to play, but that's definitely the most effective way to win a map.

Sure, I know this, but aside from orcs superior stats distribution...
Demonic might heroes usually also get their offense armorer logistics tactics earth air when I chose them as main...
Their development can't be much worse than Overlords, and unlike iE Knights you don't have to mess around with a useless starting skill...
So if I play Inferno, why not pick Pyre/Marius/Pitlordgirl?
Can't be that horrible...

What about the spells specialty heroes have? Are they not worthy too?
