The conversion always work, but sometimes the wav is not recognized by Heroes because it has extra data in advanced properties. This is easy fixable by manually removing all extra data. (company, author, just leave empty all fields)

@ salamadre-
i sure wish your idea to change the new files to old worked vice versa. i tried changing the old files (82m) to wav's, didn't work. i tried this out of desperation because none of the programs i have downloaded work to convert it either.

Yeah fred79, that is what I mean the files work but they shouldn't. It appears the 82m format is much different than wav one. But once the libraries the heroes3 engine uses are so nice to be not much data format vulnerable means the file once having same name including the extension, almost any format supported by the library would work (there may be some mutualy exclusions ie. sequencer formats may be incompatible with wave formats even when supported by the same library). That's why wav format files work there. MP3 probably won't work there once WoG's ERM needed separate commands for non-mp3 and mp3 sounds. Probably other uncompressed wave formats would also work instead of 82m files ingame (wav is a format from microsoft for windows, other systems like unixes and linuxes/BSDs use natively another uncompressed wave formats but can support wav in media players as custom format). If anybody wish to check this, please check which historical formats are uncompressed wave (raw wave data plus header mentioning at most probing frequency, bitrate of uncompressed data and length) and search for some, probably abandonware, games which use these files and try inject them into heroes3 by using same filename with extension as original 82m files.
