adding heroes 1 and 2 creatures into h3 WOG
i have already posted this in another thread, but i received no replies. so i'll make a thread out of it. i have downloaded many different programs, and i have extracted all i can, but i cannot convert .bin, .icn, .82m, .bmp(unrecognized versions), .pal, .til, and .xmi files.
from what i have found on the internet so far:
.bin files are .avi files (need converter)
.icn files can be converted to .png files (need converter)
.82m files are raw .pcm data, or game sounds (need converter)
.bmp files that are unrecognized, how to convert, or to recognize?
.pal files are palette files (need to convert?)
.til files can be converted to .gif files (converter needed)
.xmi files are extended MIDI files (have RAD pack downloaded, cannot use, keeps giving me errors when trying to OPEN file)
so there it is. if anyone can point me in the right direction, or have the programs needed(that will ACTUALLY WORK)to convert what i've extracted to far, i could be of some help to others. like i said in that post that no one answered, i have nothing but time.
(i don't know what the means. i tried to add a smiley in post, when that didn't happen, i thought that the meant to cancel it. lol, i'm a noob, yeah.

update: i cannot extract the .icn, .bin, or .82m files (using total commander 8.0). it keeps giving me an error message. i see that 30 or so people have viewed this post, but none have replied? i've been searching everywhere for my answers, and i'm not finding them...

Heroes 2 even more sprites
WoG mod with almost all Heroes 2 sprites converted
thanks salamandre, but i already have those files. i'm following the homm2 mod, also. i have extracted the files from my homm2 gold cd, but i cannot convert them over to homm3 wog versions. that is what i am trying to do. i know other people are working on that, but i only want certain monsters, and maybe their buildings for in-town and on map. trying to find a way to convert the files between games is the problem i'm running into, and probably why i keep getting an error. i just want to know how to fix what i'm doing, so there's no more error, or to be directed what program(s) are best to do so. thanks again.

Look, all tools are located in ERA, just install it over SoD or Complete, search in Tools the H3DefTool, open any def from H3sprite.lod to see what are the color parameters and size, then apply to H2 frames.
This is all the help you could get, then is up to you.

Quote: and this thread. wow. i can't believe, that i STILL have not added any h2 creatures into h3. i worked on one frame a couple months ago, realized what was in store for me work-wise, and moved on to other things. seems that everything is easier than creature work, especially trying to convert h2 creatures over to h3.
lol, it's been almost a year now. well, at least i made progress in other things.
Succession Wars is here. Why bother? Just extract them from it's LOD!

Quote: the creatures aren't the same size, man. i don't want midget versions of h2 creatures in an h3 game, it looks ridiculous.
but in order to fix this problem, after resizing them, you have to work pixel-by-pixel to get rid of the dark outlines of everything in the def, for every frame. then, you have to make sure that the pixels MATCH, from frame to frame. much, much harder than when i did the naked pixie.
Hmm. I don't think pixel-art will look good in Heroes 3.
PS I saw H2 creatures in this mod:

They don't look midgets
PS Only now notice, that there is another version of Groove screen.
Seems I mislooked it.
It must be converted too, along with Polish Gamma Groove:-)

lol, what do you think h3 is made of? pudding? cheese? LOL!
By my look H2 units in H3 look alien. Like Owl-bear.

Quote: oh, i see what you're saying now. but how can you not see that they are smaller than the other h3 creatures? it was built for a smaller-graphic game, after all.
the hard edges are what make them look so out of place, in my opinion. once you resize them, they look a little better. but then, you have to make the darkest pixels lighter, and make sure they blend, without getting rid of the edges of fabric, skin, etc. it's a complicated task.
In my link they are also smaller?
Seems they are resized.

This Grove converting is easy as two fingers. Dwellings use Fortress Town coordinates, so thanks to Macarones Monster, there is only one trouble - to gather line-up for this alternative Grove.
PS Sorry for this offtop. I'm so happy to find new town
